George Harrison Heading For The Light Lyrics

Last updated: 08/20/2012 10:40:35 AM

I've wandered around with nothing more than time on my hands
I was lost in the night with no sight of you
And at times it was so blue and lonely
Heading for the light

Been close to the edge, hanging by my fingernails
I've rolled and I've tumbled through the roses and the thorns
And I couldn't see the sign that warned me, I'm
Heading for the light

Ooh - I didn't see that big black cloud hanging over me
And when the rain came down I was nearly drowned
I didn't know the mess I was in

My shoes are wearing out from walking down this same highway
I don't see nothing new but I feel a lot of change
And I get the strangest feeling, as I'm
Heading for the light

Ooh - my hands were tired
Jokers and fools on either side
But still I kept on till the worst had gone
Now I see the hole I was in

My shoes are wearing out from walking down this same highway
I don't see nothing new but I feel a lot of change
And I get the strangest feeling, as I'm
Heading for the light

I see the sun ahead, I ain't never looking back
All the dreams are coming true as I think of you
Now there's nothing in the way to stop me
Heading for the light

Now there's nothing in the way to stop me
Heading for the light

We're all heading for the light, sooner or later | Reviewer: Mike Carr | 8/20/12

I was getting ready to work out when I received word that my long time friend and neighbor John DeBlois had just passed away. When "Heading For The Light" started to come through my headphones, it immediately summed up what I knew about John's life. The jokers and fools, roses and thorns that we must endure as we go down that highway. Thank you George for a great song; please welcome my friend John into heaven, into the light. God Bless you both.

"sun" to "Son"! | Reviewer: Michael | 7/4/11

George was a deeply spiritual man, so I'm pretty sure that's his motivation here.

As a Christian, I look at this song a little differently - simply change each instance of "light" to "Light" and the one instance of "sun" to "Son" and it's all about my relationship without and now with Jesus!

Yes, there is nothing in the way to stop me Heading for the Light! And all believers in Christ.

Motive for the song | Reviewer: Alan Fielding | 12/28/07

In my opinion this is the very best track on the album and I wondered if it was a personal song about a girl or if it was a type of gospel song. Either way it's fabulous and when George died we lost a treasure. As Lennon once said, "George writes beautiful songs". He was right.
