The Sunday newspaper was open on the coffee table to a page filled with children's pictures who were waiting for adoptive homes. My husband and I both had considered adoption in the future, and that day, through that song coupled with the newspaper that lay open with oh, so many childrens hopeful faces gazing up from that page, we knew, God was calling us to adopt children. Within the next three years the Lord blessed us with three children through adoption. This is a wonderful song that means a lot to our family. It helped bring us to our children. "and they think i fell down again" means that at home the child is being beaten. But the song gets into more detail that simply physical abuse but mental abuse and emotional neglect. "Momma don't you love me Then why do you hurt me?" I always interpreted that as meaning that his mom says very hurtful things about him. A child who didn't learn what love was from his parents or from another human being. But from God the father and His son, Jesus Christ. The song brings tears of sorrow to my eyes when i hear the second measure, but by the end of the song, they are tears of Joy, because in this song, i can see how endless and pure and beautiful and selfless His love is. And even in the midst of the pain, the Father is there, holding the wounded sparrow in His hands, crying enormous tears for the helpless and the hopeless.
