He Lyrics - Jars Of Clay

Review The Song (11)

Don't try to reach me, I'm already dead
The pain when it grips me, for things that I've done

Well I try to make you proud, but for crying out loud
Just give me a chance to hide away
Exhaustion takes over, will this someday be over?

[Chorus:]

Fearful tears are running down
The pain you've laid don't speak a sound
Don't take my heart away from me
And they think I fell down

Daddy, don't you love me?
Then why do you hit me?
And Momma don't you love me
Then why do you hurt me?
Well I try to make you proud, but for crying out loud
Just give me a chance to hide away
Exhaustion takes over, will this someday be over?

[Chorus]

A teardrop falls from up in the heavens
Drowning the sorrow of angels on high
For the least of the helpless, the hopeless, the loveless
My Jesus, His children, He holds in His eyes

Beautiful Song, wrong message in ONE line | Reviewer: Gina | 1/2/12

I so enjoy this whole album! It was one of my first ever as a Christian to obtain and was so surprised to hear a fave from my secular radio days 'Flood' and to GET it finally!

This song is indeed beautiful, but I take issue with one word and the concept it lays forth as it is misleading in its entirety, unfortunately. Jesus does not, nor has He ever, nor will He ever NEED us. I prefer to sing 'He leads us' instead. A God who needs us is not sovereign and is weak and not one to put trust in! That He chooses to not kill us all and start over again, has sent His Son to redeem us and guides us through each day that He has given us proves His love tho!

i love this song very much. the first time i heard it, it struck me that instant. i grew up in an unhappy family with my father always drunk and my mother beinf battered. my aunt abused us my sister and brother when we were growing up. the lyrics are so deep, i die everytime i hear this song. through trials and miseries God is always there for us, loving and guiding us.. to jars of clay, i love you so much guys.

a big fan | Reviewer: whoever | 7/22/10

The only thing that I would like to say is that maybe everyone is taking the song to literally. When you say its about child abuse, I assume a physical abuse scenario. I grew up in a christian home and never felt completely loved from my parents. NEVER PHYSICALLY ABUSED. Yet, everytime i hear this song, it makes me think of my relationship with my parents. Its funny, when I read Jesse Vs comment...I started laughing and crying at the same time. I do not consider myself as a christian anymore, but anytime i hear this album i wonder why i dont. Without a doubt, the best album out there.

Great Song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/5/10

As a grown man (53), still dealing with the damage of child abuse, abadonement, lonliness & fear. This song ministered Jesus love to me. I heard it the first time in the gym the other day (I'm 6'1 tall 230 lbs muscular, but still damaged), It confirmed God's love for me. I've been looking everywhere for His love and sadly to say could not find it anywhere! I want to say especially in the CHURCH! I've reached out, in a hard time of sickness and almost despair, and for my labors the self righteous "christians" judged me and stood a far off. (woe be to him)
If you a true believer in Jesus Christ, walk in Love and be imitators of God, ministered to those tortured by this terrible plight of child abuse. Be sensitive to His Spirit and Love. For we know this song is true and Jesus loves his little ones.
Psa 27:10 "For my father and mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me up"

Matt 25:45
"Then He will answer them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.'

Beloved lets us love one another, for love is of God and everyone that loved is born of God. He that loveth not known't not God for God is love!

Now i know why the conection !!! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/23/08

i see this song as words from God, giving me peace when i though my pain would never leave.
Now i understand why i feel this song so much,
at the end it tells me, that my many years of child abuse has come to an end. he cares, he knows , he loves me, protects me, and keeps me from drowning.

A great song !!! praise God!!

I remember the first time my husband and I heard this song, it was a beautiful Sunday afternoon and we were relaxing after church. The Sunday newspaper was open on the coffee table to a page filled with children's pictures who were waiting for adoptive homes. My husband and I both had considered adoption in the future, and that day, through that song coupled with the newspaper that lay open with oh, so many childrens hopeful faces gazing up from that page, we knew, God was calling us to adopt children. Within the next three years the Lord blessed us with three children through adoption.
This is a wonderful song that means a lot to our family. It helped bring us to our children. Through that song, God spoke to our hearts.

The meaning of the song | Reviewer: Jesse V | 1/2/08

As the previous post states the song is about child abuse.

"and they think i fell down again"
means that at home the child is being beaten. But the song gets into more detail that simply physical abuse but mental abuse and emotional neglect. "Momma don't you love me Then why do you hurt me?" I always interpreted that as meaning that his mom says very hurtful things about him.

A child who didn't learn what love was from his parents or from another human being. But from God the father and His son, Jesus Christ.

The song brings tears of sorrow to my eyes when i hear the second measure, but by the end of the song, they are tears of Joy, because in this song, i can see how endless and pure and beautiful and selfless His love is.

Possibly my favorite song of all time... but there are certainly some others out there.

Also possibly my favorite album of all time.

One of my favorites | Reviewer: Matt | 10/29/07

I'm a tremendous fan of this album in general, but this song rips at my heart every time I hear it. It's about child abuse. And even in the midst of the pain, the Father is there, holding the wounded sparrow in His hands, crying enormous tears for the helpless and the hopeless. But He lets us know that when hope fades and help seems miles away, He is our hope and our help in times of trouble.

curious one | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/20/07

The end part | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/24/07

He loves you
He sees you
He knows you
protects you
He needs you
He holds you

For the precious reviewer, take it easy, lol

problem with "He" by: Jars of Clay | Reviewer: hannah | 6/10/07

At the end of the song there is a repetitive line that you forgot. It goese somthing like " he loves you,he holds you, he protects you" ets. and all of that is missing and I whant to know the words to that part!!!!!! so you are butt heads if you don't fix it.
sorry about the insult,
Hannah
