"you watch your feet for the cracks in the pavement" i think is the best line in this song, it shows how people are so concerned about superstitions and fears and popularity that they miss the whole view of life. Many other lines explain this. The part about wishing aliens would capture him is describing how people can feel alone thinking about the meaning of life, the stars, or such other philosophical interpretations and not have anyone to talk to because they are caught up in their own little problems.
