FORMED: 1985 At a time when pop was dominated by dance music and pop metal, Guns N' Roses brought raw, ugly rock & roll crashing back into the charts. They were not nice boys; nice boys don't play rock & roll. They were ugly, misogynist, violent; they were also funny, vulnerable, and occasionally sensitive, as their breakthrough hit "Sweet Child O' Mine" showed. While Slash and Izzy Stradlin ferociously spit out dueling guitar riffs worthy of Aerosmith or the Stones, Axl Rose screeched out his tales of sex, drugs, and apathy in the big city; bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Steven Adler were a limber rhythm section that kept the music loose and powerful. Guns N' Roses' music was basic and gritty, with a solid hard, bluesy base; they were dark, sleazy, dirty, and More... So rather than giving us a load of crap saying they did record or cover it, just name the source. They have since gone on to become my favorite band. i have had much for supporting there new direction with the modern sound and new band, but after seeing them live with some of the people that where hurling comments they became instant fans of the new direction and haven't looked back. Better- a master piece it really is, from the twisted vocal styling at the start to the grungy guitar solo in the middle. I honestly feel that G nR could release this song as there single and take the world over again. i have since heard the new album and it supports this song beautifully allowing for several singles to make there appearance on radio. If only Axl could suck up his pride and release the album and reunite with the old band. It would be the biggest reunion in history and the album would actually stand a chance at making back its money. It reminds me of all my uncles and my grandpa had to go through a war or two while losing so many friends. This song has inspired me more then any other song in the world. I've been listening to Guns n' roses since 94-95 something and i fell in love instantly. There wasn't a song that I couldn't regonize myself in in someway or the other, and I know most of the songs on Lies, Appetite, Illusion 1&2 (didnt like the Spaghetti incident much tho) by heart and can sing along instantly whenever I hear them. It was a bit sad when they fell apart but maybe it was for the better, concerning I've heard alot of that it was Alx's controling behaviour that made the group fall apart, only Izzy the pianist is left today. I didn't even know that Axl was still very much musicly alive until a few days ago, I saw the live concert from Tokyo (been listening to them more and more recently the last couple of weeks) and Alx is fucking amazing. The rest of the group to of course, they really played straight into the heart of a very unsure, unsocial and introvert young boy and later young man, and they really been the red thread of my live all along the years since then. The lyrics are fantastic and so full of emotion and power and the music on the albums were very good performed. Thechnically they didnt perform that good on the concerts but it was compensated by a really great show and Axl is all over the stage as usual =) Better is a amazing song and the lyrics too, the music is so powerful and I don't know if it's Axl who's written it, but from what I hear of him in the music he delivers he has grown a whole lot since both musically and personally. His voice is so powerful and his register has widened alot since back in the old days. Along with that it's so full of wisdom, sadness and emotions, alot more than before. And in the same time he's kept his highnote powerful voice and now hes even stronger on the high notes. When I first heard from this part on and forward "So bittersweet, this tragedy wont...." it always blew my head of, this song is simply wonderful on many levels. I'm very glad that Axl still got it, but he can drop the Dreads :D, but I hope he and Izzy can stay with us for a few years more as GNR, it's nice that my friends are back. The sound has changed but the new GNR is above all my expectations, thank you so much guys. I like quite a bit of it: Aerosmith, AC/DC, Billy Idol...etc. But this song surprised me. I really hope that it was meant as a metaphor rather than a direct feeling from the writer, because one specific line haunts me: "Immigrants and faggots, they make no sense to me" and later in the song he comments on how he's white. If he's not native he's an immigrant. I know alot of people forget that, and if they can lose track of the generations that have come ashore here they instantly assume that crosses into the land of native. I know that back when this song was produced the social issues were not as strict as they are now, but it still bothers me.
