Grand Tour, The Lyrics - George Jones

Review The Song (6)

Written by G. Richey, C. Taylor & N. Wilson

Step right up, come on in
If you'd like to take the grand tour
Of a lonely house that once was home sweet home
I have nothing here to sell you
Just some things that I will tell you
Some things I know will chill you to the bone

Over there sits the chair
Where she brang the paper to me
And sit down on my knee and whisper oh I love you
But now she's gone forever
And this old house will never be the same
Without the love that we once knew

Straight ahead that's the bed
Where we lay and love together
And lord knows we had a good thing going here
sponsored links
See her picture on the table
Don't it look like she'd be able
Just to touch me and say good morning dear

There's her rings all her things
And her clothes are in the closet
like she left them when she tore my world apart
As you leave you'll see the nursery
Oh she left me without mercy
Taking nothing but our baby and my heart
Step right up, come on in

Heartbreaking | Reviewer: Helena | 8/15/08

absolutely agree that it's about a happy, wonderful relationship that ended tragically when his wife and baby died during labour.
There is no ill-feeling in the whole song - just softness and love, and the gutwrenching reality that what SHOULD have been a happy ending just turned out as a deep and horribly unfair loss.

I've listened to this song over and over and believe that the loss of due to the death of the wife, during childbirth. She's gone forever. Nothing (to me) indicates she left... as all her clothes are in the closet, her rings are there, everything of her's is left, and the last line says all she took was their baby and his heart.

Outstanding! | Reviewer: Curt Hart | 5/21/07

"The Grand Tour" is a heart-breaking, tear-jerking song by which many of this type should be judged. Here's a man who comes home to find his wife gone. All his has are the memories of this piece of furniture and that to remember the wonderful days with his wife. This song rips your heart out.
