I just found this song by the Pixies and it has blown my mind. I didn't really pay great attention to the lyrics meanings at first, I was so captivated by the sound. But, now that I know the meaning, I am even more captivated, Samson and Delilah is one of my favourite myths of all time, truly an amazing song and band.
a dope song | Reviewer: anonymous | 1/20/08
holy shit. i get it now. even the verse about "pot" is still about samson and delilah and i presume her asking him questions about his hair and what not. hmm knowing that makes me love this song even more.

A friend from high school was dating the drummer at the time and her name is Missy. I wonder if she somehow inspired the "Missy Aggravation" line in the song?

It is a Abrahamic myth indeed. Samson, after being captured, asked to be tied to the pillars in the entry to the city of Gaza, and comitted suicide on purpose, killing the Philistines while they were celebrating his confinement ("a 3 day party")
The Pixies were the-b-e-s-t.
A correction and elaboration | Reviewer: Arthur Lexington | 6/25/07
Actually, the song is based off of an Abrahamic myth, not a Greek one. Samson was imbued with the power of the holy spirit only under the condition that he never cuts his hair. He tells this secret to a Philistine prostitute, Delilah, who has his hair cut. He is captured and his eyes are gouged out.

Only the one verse is a reference to that. another is about smoking pot.

does anyone besides me think this is THE best pixies song...its a close tie with wave of mutilation, but this song is just so amazing. the vocals, the lyrics, the guitar. the all mesh together perfectly. the lyrics are actually about the greek myth of SAMSON. he was captured, tied to the pillars, and his captures celebrated his defeat for three days. until he broke his chains, destroying the city walls, and killed everyone. like HOW AWESOME IS THAT?!?!?! i love this song
