Gold Lion Lyrics - Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Review The Song (24)

Gold lion's gonna tell me where the light is,
Gold lion's gonna tell me where the light is,
Take our hands out of control,
Take our hands out of control

Now, tell me what you saw,
Tell me what you saw,
There was a crowd of seeds,
Inside, outside,
I must have done a dozen each

It was the height I threw, the weight,
The shell was crushing you,
I've been around a few

Tell me what you saw,
I'll tell you what to...
Ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ohh ohh
Ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ohh ohh

Gold lion's gonna tell me where the light is,
Gold lion's gonna tell me where the light is,
Take our hands out of control,
Take our hands out of control

Outside, Inside,
This is the moon without a tide,
We'll build a fire in your eyes,
We'll build a fire when the cover's getting brighter,
Cold desire makes the moon without a tide

Tell me what you saw,
I'll tell you what to...
Ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ohh ohh
Ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ohh ohh

Ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ohh ohh
Ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ohh ohh

Adidas commercial | Reviewer: Vagrant | 12/4/11

The term "Gold Lion" refer to two gold lion statuettes that were presented as awards at the 2005 Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival for an Adidas commercial in which Karen O sang the vocals.

It's not about Jesus, Taylor, despite the fact that you know it 100%.

gold lion | Reviewer: shon | 8/17/11

The gold in gold lion to me may be an assosiation to the golden triangle where lots of heiron comes from the lion because its a feirce addiction teh seeds also point to H i agree that the tell me what you saw part is an advice giving segment about the gold lion. its we'll build a fire so it cant be jesus (you can argue the team between you and christ) we to me refurse to the scene of drug addled youth. and the light is acctually a false light and the fire is teh passion for the vice

Def about Jesus | Reviewer: Mary | 3/19/11

This song reminds me of the end times scenario. Jesus will come and set our hands free, which means he will free us from binding or imprisonment. The seeds are people. The tight crushing shell is growth. Cold desire is lack of love and no followers or pull which is a natural effect of the moon. It's almost like she sees a vision and God is askin her, "what do you see?" Of course he knows what she sees but wants her to say it and to help her understand it. It's a very sweet song. :D

I relate this song to marijuana. In my country, Colombia, there's a variety that we call it "golden" (is yellow)
But the meaning that many placed here is better justified than mine. this one of the best songs of the group and the album.

Mr.Christ | Reviewer: brando | 10/24/10

My interpretation of this song is definitely about jesus
When that pretty girl (karen) says "gold lions gonna tell me where the light is, take our hands out of cuntrol" it makes me think that christ is gonna show us the "truth" & take cuntrol of us, instead of us making our own decisions.

I Relate to it | Reviewer: Rhiannon | 10/5/10

this song to me is about someone living a day to day struggle with drugs in there life, how its just alway there so she trys it out then gets addicted, my father got addicted to drugs when i was really young and almost ODed the only thing that got him to stop and get his act together was a picture i drew with me and him in it, and in the picture i was crying cause i didn't understand why dad was sick or how to make daddy better, my dad faced his golden lion and beat it

Jesus | Reviewer: Alecia | 7/30/10

I interpreted it to be a song about Jesus too (same as Taylor), because he's the Lion of Judah and only He has control. He lights a fire of love in my eyes and in my heart. That's probably not what it really is about to the singer, but that's what I always think of when I hear this song.

ooh ooh | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/25/10

i love the feeling this song gives me. the music sounds like restless youth in my ears, and her voice soothes and guides you through

i definitely always associate the gold lion to a drug, probably well known to her.
tell me what you saw and ill tell you what you... sounds like a trip, or advice to someone else whos tripping since shes been there plenty of times before 'been around a few' 'must have done a dozen each'
and her advice is basically give in and ride it out:P

Wow | Reviewer: TAylor Bartholomew | 12/10/09

Loook you guys are gonna think im crazy.
but i know 100% this song is about jesus christ. Think NARNIA

even at the end of their music video the fiery spoke. that was a symbol for the followers of christ when it was not ok to follow jesus, when you would be a executed. there is a whole story behind the spoke. The acronym for the secret gathering spelled fish (not in english) and when you put all the letters together it makes a spoke, thus their symbol.

sorry indie kids you beloved karen o would seem to be a follower of jesus.

GOLD LION GONNA SHOW ME WHERE THE LIGHT IS!

acid trip much? | Reviewer: musicjunkie | 8/19/09

maybe it's just me, but i've always associated this song with being on drugs. i meen, just little parts kinda remind me of an acid trip. "it was the height i grew", "we'll build a fire in your eyes. we'll build a fire when the colors get brighter" and even the whole concept of a gold lion? sounds like someone was trippin to me
