That in turn would make every other guy look bad. The main character in the song has become aware and is channeling his despair and pleading the abuser to stop the abuse. The despaired also has a burden of guilt for not intervening, which can be noticed in his question, "what have I not? [done]". The main purpose of the song is to create an awareness in listeners about trying to recognize signs of potential abuse. "She tries to adjust" has a double meaning.
