Enduring truth in 'Smuggler's Blues' | Reviewer: Christopher
------ About the song Smuggler's Blues performed by Glenn Frey
Who knew that when Glenn Frey penned this song back in 1984/5 that it would describe the state of the War on Drugs for the next 25 years. Besides being a good catchy tune in its own right, Frey proved to be a clairvoyant regarding the futility of the War on Drugs. I grew up in Miami and remember when DJ "Cox on the Radio" locked himself in the studio one day and played "Smuggler's Blues" non-stop for almost 24 hours because it was "the truth". Hard to imagine the song would endure for quarter of a century. They'll probably still be playing it in another 25 years.
Great Miami Vice Theme Song | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Smuggler's Blues performed by Glenn Frey
I first heard "Smuggler's Blues" on Miami Vice, where it was the featured theme song in an episode where Glenn Frey plays a pilot who keeps a C47 in mint condition and smuggles Crockett and Tubbs into Colombia. I have liked it ever since. The song perfectly characterizes the multiple dilemmas faced by those in the drug trade, from simple couriers or mules, to the politicos and kingpins. To my taste, it is Frey's best song, or at least as good as "You belong to the City", and theme song for Crockett during a New York investigation.
