Gives You Hell Lyrics - The All-American Rejects

Review The Song (20)

I wake up every evening
With a big smile on my face
And it never feels out of place
And you're still probably working
At a 9 to 5 pace
I wonder how bad that tastes

When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell

Now where's your picket fence, love?
And where's that shiny car?
And did it ever get you far?
You never seemed so tense, love
I've never seen you fall so hard
Do you know where you are?

And truth be told, I miss you
And truth be told, I'm lying

When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell
If you find a man that's worth a damn and treats you well
Then he's a fool, you're just as well
Hope it gives you hell
I hope it gives you hell

Tomorrow you'll be thinking to yourself,
"Where did it all go wrong?"
But the list goes on and on (and on and on and on)
And truth be told, I miss you
And truth be told, I'm lying

When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell
If you find a man that's worth a damn and treats you well
Then he's a fool, you're just as well
Hope it gives you hell

Now you'll never see
What you've done to me
You can take back your memories
They're no good to me
And here's all your lies
You can look me in the eyes
With the sad, sad look
That you wear so well

When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell
If you find a man that's worth a damn and treats you well
Then he's a fool, you're just as well
Hope it gives you hell

When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell
(Hope it gives you hell)
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell
(Hope it gives you hell)
When you hear this song and you sing along, well, you'll never tell
(Well you'll never tell)
And you're the fool, I'm just as well
I hope it gives you hell
(It will give you hell)
When you hear this song I hope that it will give you hell
(It will give you hell)
You can sing along I hope that it puts you through hell

Love It!!!!! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/8/11

This is one of my favorite songs...due to a whacked out B***h telling my son that he was the father of her baby. Went through everything with her, doctors appts., delivery and then home with the baby. Only to find out about 9 months later that the baby was not his. Hope it gives you hell!!!!!!

He doesnt miss her, guys | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/4/11

He doesn't miss her. That's the point. He's happy without her. He's rubbing it in her face how very successful he know is, and she's not. He's not trying to create conflict with repeating. He's pretending to build conflict. "Truth be told I miss you" is what we expect a normal person to feel: A small little bit of regret. And then the next line takes it all away. He verifies this "You can take back your memories they're no good to me." He's over it, she's a bitch, he's rubbing it in. Jesus people, read more.

Further, the song is mechanically simple, but it's the message that makes this song perfect. This song is the perfect "FUCK YOU!" *middle finger if you have an ex that sucks a dick.

towards the haters | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/14/10

The beatles songs are extremely easy to play, blink 182's songs are the simplest songs every made and guess what they're extremely famous even after they're gone. If you can make a song that gets played on the radio and make thousands if not millions of dollars then go ahead and talk. And while you keep hating on this song guess what? they're still making a buck every time its played on the radio. now please go back to working at your minimum wage job.

Lololololololol | Reviewer: Mike | 11/24/10

The queer ass little middle school kids commenting on this song should have their right to touch a computer or a radio revoked. It's a good song if you're dealing with someone who pissed you off and you hope their life sucks, but it's not "lyk OMFG ROTFLMMFAO epic WINz0rz" good like you damn treach monkeys are making it out to be. Jeez. Can't wait for the flurry of lame underage insults sure to be flying my way shortly..

You know... | Reviewer: Bryan V | 8/26/10

You know what else was a simple song? Actually even simpler than this one? "Louie Louie". And that song isn't bad...huh?

The fact one can write a good song without having to get fancy at all, is a testament to that one's talent. AAR should be complimented for this song, not looked down upon.

i think you shouldn't ask ppl about how old they are when all you notice in this song is the repetitions and the lack of difficulty in guitar which doesn't make any sense, since if you can make a good song without over complicating than it's better than playing something hard.(i'm a guitar player myself) Instead of looking at the meaning behind in. No offense just saying my opinion.

answer to ''please...'' | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/20/09

The whlole part of the repeat, "and truth be told, i miss you, and truth be told im lying" is to build up a self conflict. yeah he still has feelings for her but meaningless feelings that everyone who has a long term relationship would have left over, then when he says hes lying it kind of works both ways... but it is like a real person should feel... i guess you have to be in those shoes once or twice to understand that lyric. this song is ligit.

My opinion | Reviewer: Me | 10/14/09

I Love AAR, and I really like this song, but best song ever? no. It's a quite good choice, if you wanna rock out, and just ....uh dont know the word in english...: when you jump around in your room, and dance, and sing to this song, thats really fun!

To the guy below me: Best songs in the world DONT need to be difficult. In my opinion, the easy songs are miles better than all the ones with complicated guitar riffs.

and to another guy below me:
I think the repeating of "The truth be told" is one of the best parts in the song. And I write Songs by myself and, without being lordly, I gues I have a Kind of knowledge bout Texts.

But :-D Thats Just my Opinion xD

ok, the song is alright, but seriously, best song in the world? it kicks-effin-ass? amazing? how old are you people? first off, the song is mechanically so basic, 3 monkeys could play the guitar, bass and drums. its so easy if it was in rockband or guitar hero, it would have 0 star difficulty even on expert mode. and the singing? i mean geez, the guy seriously sounds like a screeching cat, like he's trying so desperately hard to sing so high (a la Dexter Holland from Offspring) for no apparent reason other than to scream like a girl. and c'mon, the lyrics are stupid. he repeats "hope it gives you hell" so many times (31), its almost like background noise.

they do have some good tracks, but this one is almost their worst.
