Green Day Give Me Novacaine Lyrics

Last updated: 03/17/2013 01:44:07 PM

Take away the sensation inside
Bitter sweet migraine in my head
Its like a throbbing toothache of the mind
I can't take this feeling anymore

Drain the pressure from the swelling,
This sensation's overwhelming,
Give me a long kiss goodnight
and everything will be alright
Tell me that I won't feel a thing
So give me Novacaine

Out of body and out of mind
Kiss the demons out of my dreams
I get the funny feeling, that’s alright
Jimmy says its better than air,
I’ll tell you what

Drain the pressure from the swelling,
This sensation's overwhelming,
Give me a long kiss goodnight
and everything will be alright
Tell me that I won't feel a thing,
So give me Novacaine

ho novacaine

Drain the pressure from the swelling,
This sensation's overwhelming
Give me a long kiss goodnight
and everything will be alright
Tell me Jimmy I won't feel a thing,
So give me Novacaine

brilliant...f***ing brilliant... | Reviewer: Cate | 3/17/13

Billie, less frequently than once in a blue moon - someone this talented will be born, evolve, click with other brilliant people and give us masterpieces. From their first album, 39/Smooth to American Idiot, and thru now Uno, Dos, Tre...Green Day gives us the stories and songs of our lives. I'm the exact same age as Billie Joe - and I just want to thank Green Day for being there, every step of the way.

Pain isn't always physical. | Reviewer: me | 6/24/12

Novocaine...,what does that say to most people? It is universally known for numbing physical pain. Therefore, Novocaine, is an analogy here, for dulling mental pain, as well. Absolutely brilliant use of one simple word!!

Give Me Rock Opera? | Reviewer: Alex Summers | 5/13/12

Absolutely amazing song- the broadway cast for American Idiot also did a great job remaking it. Sounds like 2 different amazing songs. this is the part where Saint Jimmy/Jesus of Suburbia are doing drugs in order to ease the pain of running away and ending up in a "dumpster". Its like the only choice they have left

I listened to this song straight after I watched the movie "Let Him Have It" about Derek Bently, the guy who was sentenced to death back in the 50s/60s. Since then every time I listen to it I get the picture of him on death row and the lyrics representing all of his thoughts about his loved ones etc. I know its kind of a shot in the dark but its my interpretation of it anyway :)

Cassandra got it right | Reviewer: Dokidoc | 10/4/11

Yeah I think Cassandra is right. Greenday albums are rock opera guys, it's a story.

but what is really great about Greenday's songs is that they are made in a way easy to interprete as you want, and even for a "sad" subject like this one (someone going into drugs), greenday sing and play it with no demotivationnal feelings. You can take it as part of the story, or just take that good vibration they nearly always put in their song :)

Haha love this song | Reviewer: Chuck | 7/7/11

This song totally reminds me of my life. Up until recently I had some really bad shit going on and I was extremely depressed. However, I met this girl and she helped me out with EVERYTHING and I fell in love with her.
"Give me a long kiss goodnight
and everything will be alright"
I'm pretty sure I've said that to her. I just need her to get me through my day, and that's what this song reminds me of.

Love ya Momma Bear :D

sweet song | Reviewer: Jaqi | 2/28/11

this is such a sweet heartfelt song. i love this song, its one of my favorites by green day. i've read how people think it's either about stress or love. i think it's a mix of both. i think its about how love is kind of a new feeling for him and doesn't know how to handle it. cause well, love hurts. thats corny but true haha. but the meaning isn't important, its a great song by itself!

stuck in my head today | Reviewer: kaiju | 10/21/10

yeah i woke up with it stuck in my head this morning. i guess i know why. there's a bunch of drama going on and i wish it would just go away.
i guess i feel like this all the time. especially now.
great song and the whole cd. lovs it.

The best song ever | Reviewer: Diana | 7/16/10

This song is amazing. It truly reflects what many of us feel when faced with pain whether it be a loss of a love one, broken heart, war, and so many more human emotions. How many times have we all not wish there was a drug to just take it all away without dying. Its a heart felt song. I love Green day!

I found this in a web site:
Novocaine is a synthetically created derivative of cocaine and is used as an anesthetic in minor surgeries. It is quick acting, requiring only 3-5 minutes following injection for complete analgesia to set in. When used alone, it wears off quickly, in 12-15 minutes, but more commonly is mixed with epinephirne, it last for 30-45 minutes.

It was a primary anesthetic for dental surgery, but is now seldom used since more powerful anesthetics have been discovered.

i hope this can help you(:

love it | Reviewer: mikki | 12/18/09

After having 12 teeth take out I can LITERALLY relate to this song...Especislly seeing as the first 8 were taken out before someone noticed I have a high tolerance anisthetic(sp?)...Fantastic song, good to listen to when your going through one of lifes rough patches.

I can relate | Reviewer: Matt H. | 11/5/09

This is one of my favorite songs, and one of the many i can truly relate to. Whenever i don't feel at ease, which is probably all the time, and whenever i feel hurt, or upset, or anything- i always look for something to cheer me up, to make that pain go away. And that anything, could truly be anything. Nobody wants to hurt. Nobody wants to be alone.

And irony once again the enemy, the world will never be at peace.

recoveryforlife | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/4/09

this song for me has to do with stress and how overwheleming it can be.."the sensation's overwhelming." i mean i guess it could be for other things too but for me personally i can relate to it for stress.

What the song is actually about: | Reviewer: Cassandra | 8/25/09

this isn't so much about the general subjects like "stress" or "love" as it is a staple in the storyline of this album. At this point in the story, the Jesus of Suburbia kid is living in the city after running away from his former life in the suburbs, in search for identity and an escape from lies, conformity, and hypocrisy. His newly developed rebel alter-ego, St. Jimmy, is an insurgent of everything the kid hated about his suburban life. What's happening here is that J.O.S/Jimmy is torn between worlds and identities, lost and confused in this constant slew of new information and truth. He's overwhelmed and probably a little afraid, so he's turning to drugs to ease the pain - which is highly encouraged by his alter ego ("Jimmy says it's better than air").

Love or stress? | Reviewer: Keo | 7/11/09

I absolutely love this song. I am unsure though about the meaning (as with many new Green Day songs). Is this one about stress or love. Either way I can relate but it's kinda hard to tell if it's a metaphor or not.
