Runka-runka, three chords, and a cloud of dust. The Georgia
Satellites were one of the most ferocious bands of the
Eighties, and what set them apart from the other 10,000
groups that cranked their amps to 11 was that their wild
riffs and tanked cries came from a quartet that understood
its place in rock tradition and fought hard to solidify it
with each recording. They only lasted for three LPs and a
handful of EPs and odd tracks (some of them really odd),
but as Let It Rock: Best of the Georgia Satellites shows,
they expanded forever the limits and the promise of what a
band could do with those three chords (well, sometimes only
two) played harder than ever before.
The story here starts in Hedgen's, a "country club for the

Saw them twice in the 80's. Then in the 90's the band i was playing in opened up for Dan Baird at Dallas City Limits. My stupid ass didnt realize at the time who he was and didnt hang out to meet him. I will forever regret that

------ About artist/band Georgia Satellites
It's a cryin' shame there's no chance of a reunion, 'cause the sequel to "Salvation & Sin" would be a sight for sore ears. Nearly 20 (!) years down the pike, I can honestly say they don't make 'em like they used to... (It's an all-digital recording, hehehe). I saw them live in Sudbury, On, CA in 1989 for this tour, and every so often, when I need my ass kicked, I listen to the record.

------ About the song I Dunno performed by Georgia Satellites
I've never corrected a site like this before - but the lyric that is wrong is one of Dan Baird's wittiest. The first line of the second verse is:
Country club for the emotionally confused, spiritually impoverished and moral destitute

------ About the song I Dunno performed by Georgia Satellites
So they sold out on the 80's hair because a big lable made it worth their while. I understand. Most of us would never allow ourselves to look like idiots in front of millions just because some "major" record lable flashed a few K in front of us, right? Now that we're past it (the 80's), all I can say is "holly shit!". These guys put out some outstanding rocknroll. Their few hits (you know em) where worthy beyond a doubt, but the B sides are what make this band truely remarkable. To all you self appointed "alt-country" and "cow punk" types, go to church. If you haven't heard the rest of the Satellites, you need to.

------ About the song Six Years Gone performed by Georgia Satellites
This song has everything. you can feel the "aganst" in Dans voice,-I met him once and the song relates to one of the band members' past realtionships -as you might have guessed , but he wouldn't say who. The lyics flow, the semi rock/country melody draws you in, and that sense of wanting to move on to new ground, but still held in the grip of the "old flame" runs through the whole record. Fantastic.
