From the morning Lyrics

Performed by Nick Drake
Review The Song (12)

A day once dawned, and it was beautiful
A day once dawned from the ground
Then the night she fell
And the air was beautiful
The night she fell all around.

So look see the days
The endless coloured ways
And go play the game that you learned
From the morning.

And now we rise
And we are everywhere
And now we rise from the ground
And see she flies
And she is everywhere
See she flies all around

So look see the sights
The endless summer nights
And go play the game that you leared
From the morning.

I found Nick and his music while searching for melancholy songs, and I recognized this song immediately from the AT&T commercial.

To me, it's like he's telling us, "Look, it's too late for me, but you all go on and appreciate all this. Live your lives, love your loves, and lift one for me. Be happy if you can."

Godspeed, Nick, and thanks for the beauty you added. Your life was too short, and you gave more than you took. We're grateful.

'From the morning' is more than just music to me. It sounds crazy but it is. Nick Drake was a true gift from God and his music stirs the soul like no other I've heard. Simple, pure, fragile and beautiful. I hope Nick knows how much his music means to people. Thanks Nick.

Nick Drake was severely depressed- this song is a beautifully poetic metaphor for suicide. Nick Drake is saying that life was a miraculous gift. Being born he depicts as the morning, but for him, "night" is just as beautiful. He was ready to die. This song was written as his depression worsened, and then he killed himself not long after at the age of 26.

ATT commercial too | Reviewer: Davey Drake | 11/2/10

I heard it on that ATT ad too. It made my shoes stand up on my back. My arms wilted and my hair caught on fire on my toes. So I went to the web with the only lyrics I got from it and tried "From the Morning" BING Mystery solved. YAY

love life! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/21/10

This song is so beautiful and reminds us that there is beauty and happiness in every day we wake up. No matter how bleak there is always a new day for us to make our own cherishing and revelling in the miracle of life! No matter where you are in life, no matter ho high or low please remember ever day has the promise of a new beginning filled with hope! Whether you are beginning this journey of life or are in the final stages its awesome that each day brings the dawn of new hope and appreciation to our God (or whoever you believe in) for blessing our life with a brand new day "From the Morning" until we sleep at night! Always be encouraged knowing that our time is precious and each day is beautiful because we are alive! Peace and prosperity to all who see, hear and beleive!!! "From the Morning" is where our hope is because each one presents the opportunity to make the day what we want it to be! Hope is alive!

i heard this tune on the att commercial. every time i heard it it haunted me... i have heard this song before, but where? who? weeks went by and everytime i heard the song on the commercial the hair stood up on my neck. it was as if i'd heard it in a different lifetime. after about a month it suddenly struck me. one time in cincinnati circa 2002 i had experienced a mrimba/kalimba player named Matt Shelton who for a time performed this song live. Mystery solved.

Genesis | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/17/10

There seem to be rather lovely allusions to Genesis here: "A day once dawned...and it was beautiful;" but here it is "a day" rather than "day once dawned." Its as if with longing and bittersweet remembrance he recalls the beginning, e.g., "Once upon a time, there was innocence and beginning." Then the air (heavens), and night falls...in Genesis, this is day one, morning and night. Creation goes on, and as it moves forward, G-d sees that it is VERY good. But where are we now? Where is Nick now? Try to remember that there was morning and endless coloured ways and a game to be learned. Who is she? What is everywhere?

Wow... | Reviewer: Neverendr | 7/7/10

It's nice to see people enjoying an artist like Nick Drake, rather than the current crap that most consider "good music".

I've been a fan of Nick for years, kind of grew up on this kind of music...if you find yourself enjoying his stuff, give Pete Yorn a listen, another amazing singer / songwriter that's gotten some play on tv shows, House for one...Matthew Ryan is also amazing and has new stuff coming out pretty often, and his shows are intimate, relaxing and very enjoyable. His discs can be tough to find, but you can sample a lot of his stuff on matthewryanonline.com, check out "Some Streets Lead Nowhere"!

Love this song | Reviewer: Jennifer | 6/12/10

I first heard this song on a commercial, and immediately searched for the artist. I found Nick Drake and discovered his delicious music and learned about his sad life. One can absolutely hear the sadness in his songs and the way he plays. His music truly touches my soul, I only wish he could have lived a longer life.

I hope you feel better about yourself. I, too, rarely see any reason to be happy with my life or with myself. If we look, however, there are good enough reasons to be happy with our lives and ourselves. This song reminds me of that too. No matter the negative aspects of our life, look at this new, beautiful day that has dawned. Go see the sights, go do something that makes you happy.

Everyone goes through bad times, for some it's a constant struggle, but there is also always something to be happy about.

This song always reminds me of my childhood. It's sad in a way, but the song itself does not reflect on the sad parts of life. It's soft tune and it's lyrics (in my point of view) try to tell of the brilliance of life, and how we should appreciate every moment of it. Don't take happenings and time for granted. It may seem like forever when it really flies by so fast. It's depressing in a way. I should know. I'm not far from death, so I look at this song for inspiration. It helps me want to carry on my full time. It makes me happy, even though I have no reason to be. It fills me with well being, and if I was no person that would have that sort of self esteem, I wonder what it does to other people.
