I would say that Emo died a long time ago. The days of Sunny Day Real Estate and The Get Up Kids are long gone. What happened with Emo happened with Punk and Grunge. MTV got hold of it and it became a parody of itself with mental fringes and Fall Out Boy. To the student who believes it's a mask for growing up... is that such a bad thing? Is it wrong to want to belong? I suggest you look at Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

This song holds so much hurt in it. If I didn't already know exactly how this girl felt from my own experience, I would have felt it through the song itself. It's so beautiful, yet damning. It's one that if you've experienced this kind of love that you will never be able to erase this song from your memory.

I think it's about a guy who thinks the woman he loves is cheating on him "here you stand, seething with guilt" and she's to scared to defend herself "silence only justifies this act of cowardice". He doesn't know what to do, so he kills himself without telling her "with no last kiss and no regrets, you don't deserve goodbye". She ends up scared and lonely, and remembers when they were together, although it hurts greatly "did you ever look, did you ever see that one person". After many years "but this table for one has become, bearable" she decides to kill herself too, drowning in the memories of him "standing so close knowing that it kills me to breath you in" "for as much as I love Autumn, I'm giving myself to Ashes".
We will never know the true meaning of this song though, but everyone seems to agree it his to do with love, death, and or suicide.

I think what this song is about is a girl who is in love with a guy, but he doesnt know it, and the 'Standing so close knowing that it kills me to breath you in" is showing that they are close, but she knows that they will never e togather. "Just say you will do he same for me" is her cry out telling him she wants him to love her, but she keeps messing up and he ends up hating her.

i believe that this is a story of two people who are in love, the guy does alot of messed up things like maybe taking drugs and the girl always forgives him...but she does something wrong and he cant find it in himself to forgive her. its a really sad song, thats why at the end she sings "just say you would do the same for me" as in, forgive me for the things she has done also.

Its a beautiful thing when an artist can write something like this. This song reaches right out and touches my life. I think everyone knows what the writer was going through. Also the tone in her voice and the way she sings it just forces all the memories up. Just takes me back to where my heart was when i was broken.

Both of those songs are so amazing. So sad and so true..
It reminds me of my story with a boy.
Once I've fallen in love with him and it seemed like he does have the same feelings for me because of his behavior. I've never said him anything of how I felt and I've made even so dumb faults because I was frightened of these feelings. I'm still hating me for what I've done. Anytime he begun to ignore me, it seemed like that. When I asked him to do something together he was happy, but it never worked right so I gave up and now I am ignoring him too. I even do not want to look in his face, 'cause as I did it one time he gave me a lovely smile and it made me weird...
These songs would fit, but somehow I think he has no feelings for me anymore.

Everyone has the meaning of this song ALL wrong. She clearly says she's tortured "by YOU" meaning that the visions she has of him torture her. she "breaks in two" over him, half of her can't be without him but half can't stand him. She wants to be free of it and she can't when his face keeps haunting her in her sleep. She is "torn between darkness and light" clearly means the dark half of her can't be away from him even though he is poisoning her, but the light half (the one wanting to be free of this) can't win. The right thing isn't always the easiest.
