Free Fall Lyrics - In Flames

Review The Song (10)

Mirror mirror,
How far will I go?
Despite the foundation,
I am falling.
Sweet reflection,
Will you save a place for me?

Where am I heading?
Could you grant me a haven?
For what I am punished,
Could I ever repent?

Mother Nature, I’m wide open,
Waiting for you to move me.

Don’t keep it from me!
This is a free fall!
This is a free fall!

I never seem to understand.
The time, the place, and who I am.
Define a way to stay alive,
It’s like I’m living a lie.

Father time, every time I stop and feel,
You’re there to tell me I’m already late.
Don’t keep it from me!
This is a free fall!

I never seem to understand.
The time, the place, and who I am.
It’s like I’m living a lie.

I never seem to understand.
The time, the place, and who I am.
Define a way to stay alive,
It’s like I’m living a lie.

I never seem to understand.
The time, the place, and who I am.
Define a way to stay alive,
It’s like I’m living a lie.

Potential meaning | Reviewer: Timbosan | 11/5/10

I agree with the sentiments of others regarding this examining the naure of conformity. There's a strong self-reflective theme (mirror mirror) then the play on words in 'sweet reflection' (both the one in the mirror and his psychological musing). Also he conveys his typical animalistic view of life in 'define a way to stay alive' and 'mother nature' - this is very powerful. We as a society seem to try and create something profound in our desperate struggle to be more than we are - clothed animals just 'staying alive'. Brilliant song.

Conforming | Reviewer: Paul | 9/25/10

Similar to the response from Anonymous on 1/24/10, as well as a couple of other responses, I find that if this song is about conforming, I think it would be about how we may conform to today's society, but we are not becoming unique. The part "It’s like I’m living a lie." may have to do with one conforming to society, but they feel like they are becoming like someone else and not their true self.

this song offers some of in flames most powerful lyrics, they convey a massive sense of someones being getting torn apart as they lose themselves in comformity. perhaps the music box tune implies a sense of innocence in all the corruption this songs talks about, whoa, poetic...

Deep Lyrics | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/24/10

I think "Free Fall" discusses the problems of conforming in todays society. We try to conform to what we see in the media, which has been edited to extreme degrees, and is actually immpossible to obtain. We can try all we want, but we will never be able to look like that super model shown in the magazine. Trying to obtain the immpossible can cause you to overstress yourself and "FALL" into depression. It can control your life and crush your dreams. Of course, we are not being forced to conform. We do it "FREE"ly and need to stop before our individualism is completely destroyed.

deep song | Reviewer: mike | 1/9/10

haha, "open your mind." yeah, having an open mind is good, as long as it's not so open that your brains fall out. p.s. don't do acid.

"Despite the foundation,
I am falling."

it would appear to me that he has a foundation in religion or a belief but his slavery to sin is bringing him down.

The rest of the song would seem to me to be an excuse or weakness as to why he can't resist whatever he's doing that's destroying him.

random observation | Reviewer: zachary | 11/1/09

It almost sounds like he is saying "the one eye above" the way he stresses "for what i am punished". He also follows this up with a statement about repentance which can be interpreted as him talking about a deity or the concept of a deity.

Is this a reference to Horus/Ra? Look on your dollar bill. "the one eye above" Masonic symbolism is replete throughout

Open your mind : )

Amazing lyrics | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/18/09

I think that this song has to do with religion in some form. It says that we follow religion because we don't know our origins. We follow creeds that are meaningless because we don't want an eternal burden but a happy life. No one wants a meaningless existence so we find a reason to live.

This is a great song on the album reroute to remain the best thing about it is the phrase they use in the intro and the second sience between the heavy bit to bring up the climax for the scream following after it.

Very deep and amazing song | Reviewer: Jesse | 8/25/08

This song does an amazing job reaching home. It describes the problems of having to change yourself to conform with society. I, at one point, let myself float around conforming before one night listening to this song it clicked. I starred deep into my own eyes through a mirror and woke up for the first time in years.

Great Song | Reviewer: Semsu | 3/28/08

Strange that this song has not being reviewed, since it´s on my opinion a great song. The lyrics attempt to delve into something profound, if you follow the questions they pose on you, you can stay very still thinking for more time that may have been expected. Also, choruses and certain lines are sang with a lot of emotion, one of the things that always distinguished in flames.
