Forsaken Lyrics
Performed by As I Lay DyingReview The Song (13)
I've looked straight into your eyes
And turned my head for the last time
Because I was scared to leave these walls in ruin
Like the fate of those who trust in themselves
We are alone and afraid
I know you are the one we left behind
Yet somehow we are the ones who are alone
You're the one we left behind, you're the one we left be
I will no longer turn my head
I will never forget you
You are the one we left behind
You are the forsaken
Weve built our confidence
On broken dreams now left for dead
Yet we've been condemned, yet we've been condemned
To chase these dreams that never end
I know you are the one we left behind
Yet somehow we are the ones who are alone
You're the one we left behind, you're the one we left be
I will no longer turn my head
I will never forget you
You are the one we left behind
You are the forsaken
I will, I will no longer turn my head
I will, I will never forget you
You are, you are the one we left behind
You are, you are the forsaken
Our selfishness consumes us
Until the whole world is not enough
Forgive the day that I erased
That I erased your name, that I erased your name
For it's the memory of me that will decay
I know you are the forsaken
Somehow we are the ones who feel alone
I know you are the forsaken
Somehow we are the ones who feel alone

Don't feel that just because people disagree with it being Christian means that we need to defend it. The message hits the ones it has to in the end. Christianity is a destiny as much as it is a choice.

Whats up with people saying they dont know why Christianity is in Metal??? FYI like 80 to 90% of metal bands are Christian... so your just gonna have to deal with it. Why cant Christianity be hardcore? If you really love God then youll be hardcore on fire for Him. Im a Christian and love this band, especially this song. I pull up to church blasting this song (of course with a mix of other songs and bands like Underoath and The Devil Wears Prada Etc.) and i especially love driving through the Wal-Mart parking lot blasting it with the windows down acting like im looking for a parking spot. Its intense with my 2 12" Memphis Subs!!! I do good to see out my rearview mirror because it shakes so much. I just hope other people get the same meaning i do out of Chirstian Metalcore, and by these other posts, they obviously do. Headbang for Christ!!!!!!!!!
Awesome song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/1/10
Amazing song, but I disagree with the anonymous dude. It's their band, they can do what they want. If they wanna sing about Jesus who's gonna stop them? People still love the music, regardless of whether it's heavily injected with Christian influence if not. They do what they love, and they love what they do, regardless of what other people think.

I respect anybody's decision to believe in god and all, but I really do think it doesn't really belong in music. As Anonymous stated, I try to find different meaning to those songs, but for this (amazing) song, it's pretty obvious they are talking about god.

gotta say that i love this band, and other christian bands like august burns red, for their music but the christian crap can really get annoying. it's not too bad when it's not explicit though, cause i take a lot of these lyrics to have meanings that i assign them. but i think they need to focus more on just being positive and fighting for something better instead of just talking about god. positive lyrics are great, just tone down the jesus stuff. it's just doesn't really belong in metal/hardcore. just my two cents.
To Forrest: I suppose there are two points of view... | Reviewer: Kieran | 3/12/10
I'm Christian myself, and I love listening to all sorts of bands, you wouldn't believe how many are out there, and I suppose because I've heard many songs before I stumbled upon As I Lay Dying, I interpreted the meaning differently... Everything you pointed out makes sense, and I didn't know about the history of this band at all, so I apologize for any misunderstandings. I'm taking it that depending on someone's own individual background, they could see the song as meaning different things. My interpretation being a good example of a different perspective. And actually, thanks to you, I can see every song from As I Lay Dying in two different ways. Both of those perspectives actually make their songs twice as awesome so thanks man ;)
They do sing about god. | Reviewer: Forrest | 2/24/10
I'm not trying to start an arguement but they do sing about god, every song they've wrote involves god. forsaken talks about how the keep turning their back on god beause their greed got in the way, they talk about their mistakes to help others through expirience, and like their aulbum (A long march, The first recording) has songs that talk about Tim's hardest times.
They are Christian, but they're not singing about God | Reviewer: Kieran | 2/23/10
Even though they are a Christian band, not all of their songs are about God or Jesus, this one for example, is on about how they left someone they hated for whatever reasons they had, they wanted whoever they left to feel alone and unloved... Yet, because of their selfish actions, they're the ones who feel alone... They left this person for something else, but it never satisfied them... So in the end, nothing will ever really be enough for them. You could see this as a religious song if you wanted to, but most of their songs actually aren't about Christianity.
*sigh* | Reviewer: Nate | 1/11/10
I hate how religion worked its way into metal. I don't care if they are Christians, but I think it would be a better band if they didn't sing about "God" or Jesus. Seriously... how can Christianity be hardcore? Not to rag on Christians or anything.. I'm just asking. Don't be offended. The riffs and the drums are amazing.. just don't like the lyrics.

yes i agree this song reveals that even when we're lost, and cant find our faith god and jesus will always be with us, no matter what the struggle we all should lay our faith in god. Even if it requires us to leave our comfort zone. As i lay dying has pulled me from the decay, and decrepit life i was gasping they showed me that faith is more than just going to church, its beliveing and praising god, spreading the word and never to give up. L ike they said "forgive the day that i erased your name, for its the memory of me that will decay"
