While Randy Travis' performance made this song famous, it was written by Do Schlitz. He won a songwriting Grammy for it. (And also for The Gambler, I think, which is similarly identified with Kenny Rogers but written by Don Schlitz.)

I'm getting married in june (8th June 2007), and this is our first dance, it is a bit fast for me to dance to but it's words are just perfect! It tells how I feel towards my lady and for many people out there I think it is the perfect song to steal words for to say how you feel for your lady!
