Foot to the Throat Lyrics - Lamb Of God

Review The Song (4)

Virginia death threat, Virginia creeper vine.
The hands that feed intent, choke the purpose of this time.
Take all that you can give, and i will make it mine
No care for what you've spent, even fool's gold has its shine

Never held down, never restrainted.
Virtue's foot to the throat,
free of broken chains.
Thus always to tyrants,
Laugh at the conquered, the victims now betray.

And in this Commonwealth,
There's merely a common concern for self.
We hold these lies to be self-evident,
As the dividends will reflect.
And in this Commonwealth,
There's merely a common concern for self.
The coffers have long run dry

Never held down, never restrainted.
Virtue's foot to the throat,
free of broken chains.
Thus always to tyrants,
Laugh at the conquered, the victims now betray.

Like a bull in a China shop,
But the shelves have all been cleared.
A thief in an empty vault,
The sheep already sheared
A screen door on a submarine,
An eagle with a broken wing,
Hope in a dead man's dream,
The sound of a bell
that will never ring

You're just wasting time

Zachary, I think you nailed it. Not many people pick up on the resemblance between this song and Patrick Henry's speech at the Virginia convention. Unfortunately, nobody knows exactly what the speech was, we just pieced together the puzzle. But good job. :) Although, in my opinion, I have never really been able to find much more foundation of a meaning of this song other than the lines that you pointed out. Although, I do like the several analogies that Blythe made for "...wasting time"

I agree with the first guy they are probably mocking americas becoming of a country, they often speal out against american things like the song contractor it seems like it could be talking about the black water operations in iraq that was orderded by the US government like the line in contractor "Blood junkie habits of the elephant man" clearly means the republicans have no value for human life when it comes to big buissnes

When he refers the the "Virginia Death threat" I think he is referring to Patrick Henry's "give me liberty or give me death!"

"We hold these lies to be self-evident"

This is a bastardization of the line, "We hold these truths to be self evident...."
As you know, this appears in the constitution so, it would seem that this song might take on the theme of mocking America's origins.

Is the song about people dying from tobacco products?is that part of the meaning to the lyrics..i swear that's like one of the only songs where they are not singing about theirspite of Christianity...
