Foolish Pride Lyrics - Eminem
Review The Song (25)
*Basement Recording that Eminem and his friend did in the late 80's*
(Friend of Eminem)
"Yo man.. Yo Marsh man, You've been kickin' all this shit about yourself, what about the homies man?"
"Ai, you want one about the posse, Aight"
Oh foolish pride, oh, oh, oh, oh foolish pride
Oh, oh, ph, ohh Foolish pride, oh, oh, oh, oh foolish pride
Well foolish pride has alot of things to say
You got foolish pride, you got tooth decay
But tooth decay is another problem
So let's take this old foolish pride and solve it
Now, when I talk about foolish pride
I mean blacks & whites taking different sides
When blacks and whites take different sides
Unity never happens, and we will subside
We will subside and hatred will release
sponsored linksAnd everything will just crush that peace
Well, when we crush that peace, we start hatin' each other
But remember, you are my brother, and you are my sister
Just like I'm a mister
I seen a black girlfriend and I kissed her
I kissed her ; I placed it on her cheek
And she didn't come back til next week
Now it was next week and she was back again
Wanting to kiss a white kid
So she was my girlfriend, we started going out
But that's okay because we were Black and white
Blacks and whites they sometimes mix
But Black girls only want your money cause they're dumb chicks
So I'ma say like this
Don't date a Black girl, take it as a diss
If you want, but if you don't
I'ma tell you like this, I surely won't
Never date a Black girl because Blacks only want your money
And that shit aint funny
So I'ma say look honey
Why do you do this?
You know, you step up to me like you a Brutus
Then you try to grab my spinach
Because its green and that's cash
So get outta here, 'cause I don't need your ass
I said that before, but that's okay because like I said you're a whore
Black girls and white girls just don't mix
Because Black girls are dumb and white girls are good chicks
White girls are good ; I like white girls
I like white girls all over the world
White girls are fine and they blow my mind
And that's why I'm here now telling you this rhyme
'Cause Black girls, I really don't like
We don't mix, it's like riding a bike
When you're peddling hard, uphill both ways
You know it's kinda hard and that's why I say to you
I'm giving you a little advice
Don't date a Black girl, if you do it once you won't do it twice
You won't ever do it again because they'll take your money
And that aint funny
So I'ma say look honey
I thought I said that before
But like I said again you're nothing but a big whore
So when mike catch on the bass line
That's okay ‘cause we will not just waste time
I'll get straight to the point
Black girls are bitches, that's why I'ma tell ya you better pull up your britches
‘Cause all that cash is making your ass drag
From the boyfriend ya ganked and that's pretty bad
I mean that's pretty sad when ya dating a Black guy
And then you turn around and fuck another big, Black guy
Now that's pretty wrong, but you're just ganking
But that's okay because you need a goddamn spanking
From me, the funky Eminem
I'm busting rhymes and I'm swallowing phlegm
I'm busting a freestyle just like this
I say swallowing phlegm and Howard gets pissed
But when Howard gets pissed that's okay
Because he leaves and he doesn't show up for two more days
So I'll just worry about that problem when I come to it
I cross that bridge when I come to it
Because, I forgot the chorus
But that's okay 'cause y'all saying bust a rhyme for us
So I'ma bust another rhyme about this Black girl
She turned out to be a fuckin' wack girl
A wack girl, because Black girls ain't funny
All they want is your godamn money
They take you for everything you got
And then you stand with a bunch of snot in your hand
So I'ma kick it to you just like this
How does the chorus go, I forgot
But that's okay, 'cause I'ma tell you in stride
I'ma say oh foolish pride
Oh foolish pride, oh, oh, oh, oh foolish pride
Oh, oh, oh, oh foolish pride, oh, oh, oh, oh foolish pride
Oh, oh, oh, oh foolish pride, oh, oh, oh, oh foolish pride
Oh, oh, oh, oh foolish pride, oh, oh, oh
Date a white girl, 'cause they got the raw hide…

Why apologize | Reviewer: Jacob of Whittier | 3/30/14
There are rappers who rap about slapping bitches and shooting others. Eminems foolish pride only says don't date black women cause they suck. Which is worse, killing assholes and slapping women, or telling others not to talk to black women. Those other gangsta rappers are the ones who should apologize if you believe artists have a moral obligation to the public.
Should this really be an issue | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/6/11
To be honest everyone has a god given right to speak their mind eminem was 15 and you can tell again this was very sporadic i dnt think he s rascist but it did hurt to read it as an artist i respect eminem this is how he feels and condeming someone for the way the feel about something is whats really wrong here their are bigger issues in the world then this its a song that was wrote 20 years ago by a child get over it as a black woman it upset me but i have been called worse by ignoring ignorance it will go away bottom line
and the definition of a nigga is a very ignorant person meaning whether you are black white purple or orange you can still behave niggarishly and have niggerish ways in fact yes words do hurt but when you let other peoples feeling affect the way you think and act as a human being then you are in fact the one with the problem i feel eminem shoulld have the right to say what he wants i just feel like this shouldnt have been recorded and it is possible for blacks to be rascist even given what our ancestors went through at the same time Martin Luther King marched so that we all would be equal black people treat white people with just as much hate as white people treat blacks i just wish we could co exist without the color divide we are all humans with human emotions and thoughts and opinions and we are all entitled to these i agree with a few people but others are using the word rascists and bigots loosely

BLACK EMINEM FANS ARE STUPID | Reviewer: Jasmine | 3/10/11
This proves Eminem can't really rap it also proves that hes a racist who only exploits blacks to get money.Black Eminem fans are ignorant he doesn't care for y'all and he was serious too notice how after the black gf he never dated another black girl again. racist racist racist bastard. Hes a abomination to rap music. He needs to get a real job.
tired of racist people on "both sides" of the issue | Reviewer: alern | 10/2/10
Eminem was definitely in the wrong for recording those songs but I don't think he is a racist person.
Way to go on the reverse discrimination!!!
Black people just CAN'T BE racist, it's impossible!
Using the word "cracker", no matter how much "all of your white friends" aren't bothered by it, is just as racist as using the word "nigger". Equality means equality not special treatment!!!! It is completely irrelevant by now the histories bewhond the words, what matters is the meaning.
What does cracker mean?..It means something derogatory.
Don't use cracker unless you want to be both a bigot and a hypocrite.

Eminem was born on October 17, 1972 , foolish pride was recorded in 1988 that makes him 16 at the very oldest possibly even 15. Can we please look at this from such an opinion, the song is prety bad as is the flow and lyricism - he is obviously young and niave and the apparent story is that marshall had been seeing a black girl for some time before she broke it off with him in dubious circumstances. At 14 he began to rap at schools in the detroit areas (not his own for some reason) including battle rap, he then met with friend kid chaos and others and decided to record some songs. to my knowledge this is his earliest surviving recording. considers em's upbringing and his shit life at that time and then put yourself in the shoes of someone who has just been broken up with and according to his lyrics been used for what little money he would of had. i know ive said some stupid shit when i was younger and when we are hurt and angry we say crap that we dont really mean but that often comes back to bite us on the ass. everyone experiences racism and everyone is racist - no one can argue that, who in their entire life has never mad one racist jibe or comment? in terms of em being a full blown racist , thats just bullcrap, proof was his best friend and best man at his wedding he sure looked past his skin colour, same with the members of d12 and his best frend at the time of this - kid chaos. Im sure eminem regreats recording this , yes it is wrong and yes it doesent portray black women in a very shining light and is an applicable account of all black women, and thats the point this eminems experience at a time when he was hurt young and bloody stupid. It may not excuse but god the amount of shit that ive heard worse than this from other rappers particuarly when they are already high profile is staggering, for questions to be raised about who eminem is now some 22 years later is ridiculous. Im not advocating racism and i do think that this is unfair to blacks and black women but at the same time dont go head over heels my race has been insulted a heap too so yeah to stop rambling im sure em regrets this and is sorry if he has offended anyone but this is 22 years ago when he was a juvenille child
It hurts | Reviewer: Lola | 6/22/10
It hurts me that Eminem recorded a song like this. Sometimes it seems to me that no man, whatever race loves the black woman. I don't get why they have to stereotype every black woman as ghetto or goldiggers. I happen to be a very educated black woman that looks at a man's heart first and not the size of his wallet. It just hurts sometimes that men as a whole don't love us black women. We're beautiful, smart, strong women. Why wouldn't you want to be with us? Em's so wrong for this. But, I still love Em.
Maybe it's Just You | Reviewer: Soulflower | 5/17/10
I suppose there are no White golddiggers and I suppose that there are no women from the ghettos in other places of the world who are hoping to find a man with money. I know that both of those are not true but perhaps he has no idea.
In any case, it is probably just him. No Black woman wanted HIM. Gee, I wonder why.

Look, people. When was this recorded? In the LATE 80'S & how old was he? Maybe a stupid teenager like you & I. He made a fricken' mistake and it probably served as a joke; thats what Em's music is supposed to do: piss people off and entertain. Many rappers talk about women and are often sexcist but no one gets on their ass for it, now do they? So hop off and let him be. He is amazing and just because he made a mistake in the past doesn't mean history will repeat itself. And people saying "Go back to your trailer" is DISCRIMINATION; you are basically calling him WHITE TRASH. & he is NOT. Just because he made one mistake and one recording doesnt mean he's racist. unless you were there at the time and knew the REAL reason behind this, no one can point fingers and put unnessecary judgement on him. His music is yes, prone to conflict, but who would eminem be without his controversy? Nothing, just some rapper there, or maybe a one hit wonder. But he isnt, and Eminem is amazing. Point blank.

HOW COULD YOU SPEAK LIKE THIS, Reviewer: Anonymous,
Get back to your trailer, honey. Nobody gives a shit about what your ancestors went through. The past is history, the present's a gift, and the future's a mystery, babe. So get off your "WE DESERVE MORE" high horse and get back down to the real world, thanks.
Oh yeah, and white girls are usually so much better girlfriends than your trashy black selves. Like Em said, stick with the white chicks.

Gayle you did an excellent job of describing your feelings and making your points, and i agreed with some of it, and words do matter, but i have to sort of disagree with you about a couple things, and give you my take
First of all s far as Eminem goes it clear he has always had a massive chip on his shoulder but its clear from the rather babyish lyrics of this song written when he was a teen that it came more from hurt feelings and rejection than anything (the title "foolish pride" might be a giveaway to this as well) and it maybe should not reflect on him too much as grown man. It also seems like it may have been pretty spontaneos and just a reaction to a particlar event..I could easily see a young black kid saying simalr stuff after his first experince being rejected by a girl of another race..its petty, its stupid, i can understand why youd be offended, but if you think about it this is coming from someone who was hurt because he wanted to be close to the person who triggered this babyish reaction ..the whites that are truly racist are not motivated by the same emotion in my opinion
second while whites do not have the history that makes words hurt and anger as much as much, as they were not the ones oppressed..and I know and respect that black people have more reason for pain and anger from "off" remarks by whites..on a personal level "cracker" is not just history to those of us whites who grew up in the inner city and had to deal with the real effect of racism from some black people, as well as seeing it from whites..(ive lived in 2 cities with many black people as a kid one where people got along well for the most part,or at least racially, and one with lots of hatred both ways at times) it could be that your white friends who shrug it off have been a little more sheltered than some of us? Yes "Cracker" could be funny but it could also be real hateful as to me (and many blacks) it means a bigoted ignorant redneck white but then is expanded by some black people to mean all whites which then could justify anything one wants to do to them..anyway, in other words just like what some whites say about black people it can hurt and dehumanize, it wouldnt surprise me if the kids that beat brian milligan of buffalo ny half to death with a concrete block recntly for dating a black girl called him a "cracker" first http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/09/07/new.york.beating/index.html
anyway i personally sure as hell would be offended by it..because im not a damn cracker! and i dont like inbred backwards redneck racist white crackers myself, now if someone called me a honky i might laugh as that is out of date though i got pretty mad when a black guy who called me a "preppie" once , his freind saw the look on my face and started apologizing for his drunk friend right off! so anyway it amusing now but i do take that as an insult too! anyway best to you, hope you dont mind my rsponse if you see it.

This was brought to my attention again a few days ago. My tastes of music have changed some since I first heard the song, but my overall feeling toward it haven't. How I feel is that...he was a teenager when he made it, and was mad at his girlfriend...and said some really racist stuff. But does that mean that he's racist? When I was a teenager I made a song with a cousin of mine that was kind of racist too, it was called "Kill The White People" (And thought it was funny that Apache made a song called that too.) I seriously doubt anyone would take it seriously, but some might. if you put a teenager in front of a microphone..something foul is most likely going to come out of it.
So this song is hardly concrete proof that he's racist. I mean...he could be, but this song doesn't prove that he is. Do you think that he wants to kill his wife and throw her is his trunk? Okay, I see your point.

This the first time I have heard this song and i must say i dnt approve of it. I am a young black female and reading the lyrics to this song has really bothered me. How could you even come out the head with this. And i see some people leaving comments that says we should get over it. I guess you just dont understand, now do you? Black women are the most independent women out here. Now i aint looking down on no other race, but we all must admit that black women have came along way. And we dont need no man to live off of. I did not come in the world with things giving to me on a silver platter. And shyt still dnt. But iam i would never look at a man to do for me, only GOD. So yall kan take these lyrics and kiss my BLACK WOMAN ASS...

The last guy that posted a response commented that hearing another Black rapper call whites "cracker" didn't bother him. The writer of the last post also couldn't seem to understand why others would be offended by Enminem's lyrics. I'm Black, and all of my white friends think of 'cracker' as an antiquated, meaningless word. The word is so generic, it elicits laughter instead of anger. On the flipside, you have a group of people, Black women, who have dealt with a lot of race based experiences that frankly, the writer of the last post would never begin to be able to understand. Otherwise, he would have not curtly told us to "DEAL WITH IT". The different set of life experiences that Black females have may make us more sensitve to Eminem when he says...... "Black girls are dumb, whites are good chicks." Black girls are "bitches". They "only want your money". The previous writer of the last post probably has no emotional associations to go with the word "cracker", wheras Black women have had to fight the misconception of being "bitches, sac-chasers, easy, etc since they were kids. Every Black woman I know has had experiences where someone has treated them like a second class citzen, and it was centered around some of the stereotypes Eminem listed. These experiences we have are what make me get a little edgy when I hear any rapper, WHITE OR BLACK disrespect black women. I don't buy the music of ANY individual that speaks poorly about people who look like me. Furthermore I don't care for Ice Cube's old stuff any more than I like Eminem's new stuff because its all too angry. Now I can't speak for sistahs who willingly listen to music that degrades them. As a Black woman, I can only speak for myself and say that its not okay for anyone to do it, and I have a right or reason to be ticked off when someone tries it. I've tried to explain this as clearly as I can.....why a person would be offended by the lyrics in this song. Now if after reading this, you still don't get it......you'll never get it. Peace.
