Feathery Wings Lyrics - Voltaire

Review The Song (12)

You, there on the bridge
Where have you been, what’s your name?
And you, there you on the wall
Where will you go to once you fall?
You, lost at sea,
Do you need me, do you need directions?
Hey, put down the gun
What are you thinking?
You were someone's son

The taste of tears
The sting of pain
The smell of fear
The sounds of crying

A long, long time ago I fell to this place
From another dimension
And thrust amongst the beasts
sponsored links
And they way they behave borders on dementia
Now through all these years
I can barely take it
I don't think I can make it
take me away from here
I want to go home

I’m so sick and tired of the
The taste of tears
The sting of pain
The smell of fear
The sounds of crying
As you standing at the edge of your life
What do you remember?
Was it all you wanted?

I'm trying to earn a set of feathery wings
I wish I could protect you here
Oh, please don't cry
Now smile as you're standing
At the edge of your life
Your troubles are over
Mine are just beginning
I'm trying to earn a set of feathery wings
To take me away from here
Its me you leave behind

If only I could have been there
I’d be a hand for the sinking
If only I could have been there
I’d be a prayer for the dying
See the pain etched in my face

I’m so sick and tired of
The taste of tears
The sting of pain
The smell of fear
The sounds of crying
As you're standing at the edge of your life
What do you remember was it all you wanted

I'm trying to earn a set of feathery wings
I wish I could protect you here
Oh, please don't cry
Now smile as you're standing
At the edge of your life
Your troubles are over
Mine are just beginning

I'm trying to earn a set of feathery wings
To take me away from here
It’s me you leave
You're gone from here
Don't leave from here
Don't leave me here
I hate it here
You're gone from here
Don't leave me here
I need you here
I need to see you smile

For Tom or any other amine fan. | Reviewer: wreckage | 2/8/12

It can most positively NOT be about charcoal feather corporation. The album this song debuted on was released in 2000. The anime in question originally aired in Japan in late 2002. Two years too late. I'll give you a decent break since there is a very good fan made video using the series. The only fact I can verify is that the song is indeed very beautiful and that Voltaire has stated it is about the angel of death. However this confusion is no where near as troubling as the people who hate the band Queen because they copied Justin Bieber. I don't know how this would even be possible?

The Angel of Death | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/14/11

This song is just beautiful. It drove me to swear to help the Angel of Death before I leave him. I don't care if I have to take his place, but he is being freed of that job and going home. I swore on it, and intend on keeping my word.

Agreeing That It's about the Angel of Death | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/21/11

It's a great song, as all of Voltaire's works are. Looking at the lyrics, listening to the song and reading the reviews on this page, I have to say it's definately about the Angel of Death hating his job. Imagine meeting new people all the time and every single one of them says,"Go the fuck away!"

Reki. | Reviewer: Tom | 2/22/11

I feel this song is all about Reki from Charcoal Feather Federation. Her wings are not feathery they are black and rotting. Her troubles are just beginning. Rakka cries and things like that. She guards Rakka for her life as a Haibaine.
It's a beautiful song whatever it means.

Authoritative Answer | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/23/10

Actually, Voltaire has said, in far more eloquent terms than I can recreate, that this is song is essentially about the angel of death hating his job. He's surrounded constantly by people who are at their lowest, and there's nothing he can do about it; he can free them to move on into peace, but he always has to stay behind and see their pains over again and again.

another theory :p | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/29/10

id say its more about suicide, and the stranger passerby who tries to convince the other to step back, he shows his/her vulnerable side and how much it would affect him/her to know and watch the other person die

id really say its purely about human contact, despite the fact they dont know each other but are each others support is the only one when its most needed

just a thought

A Guardian Angel's Lament? | Reviewer: shitsuren | 11/20/10

I took this song as being about a Guardian Angel, who is doing his best to help people... Especially when hearing the first verse. I got the impression of someone innocent trying to help people who are suffering.

Then, in the second verse, he says "..and thrust amongst the beasts, and they way they behave borders on dementia. Now, through all these years, i can barely take it. i don't think i can make it." As if, the place where he is from is full of peace. So now, thrust amongst the beastly human beings, it's hard to help anyone because we're all so terrible to one another. "i wish i could protect you here," he always says..

And he's "trying to earn a set of feathery wings," so that he can live in Heaven.. He continually says to the dying before they depart: "don't leave me here. I need you here. I need to see you smile... take me away from here. I want to go home."

"take me away from here
I want to go home.
i'm so sick and tired of the the taste of tears [and] the sting of pain [and] the smell of fear[and] the sounds of crying..."
It really hurts him that he can't much help the ones he guards. Then, he has to say goodbye to them, and watch them go home without him..

I think that it's a song about someone who feels very lonely and sad being a guardian angel..

The Crow...? | Reviewer: Crow Black Dream | 11/4/09

As some of you know, The Crow goes way beyond James O'Barr's comic, or Brandon Lee's movie; the idea that the crow is the bearer of souls from the land of the living to the realm of the dead has been legend since time immemorial. This song really reminds me of The Crow, as he is a kind of Reaper, but also, if you've read up a bit more on all things to do with The Crow, in addition to being a dark avenger, is often a sympathetic soul to those suffering, and the lyrics fit very well with J. O'Barr's universe. Just my own personal thoughts.

You two are interpreting the wrong song. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/20/09

This is "Feathery Wings", not "Almost Human".

Satan/Lucifer/etc. rule in Hell, which is the part of the afterlife where those who kill themselves go--HOWEVER, that means that it's not the Devil they leave behind.

This song is from the reaper's point of view. He has to deliver the souls of the dead, but he can't save them or interact with them before their time comes, and he can't just move on to the afterlife himself.

hmm | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/7/08

Well as I understand it, satan isn't technically evil. God created Angels and then created man, however he valued man as his greatest accomplishment and asked all Angels to bow to man. Lucifers pride drove him to claim it as unfair and stand up to God. He's evil in the sense that he fought against God the manifestation of good, but I don't think allowing his pride to get the better of him makes him wicked or cruel. And without Satan to compare God too there could be no good or evil.

Good song to talk about Satan | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/3/07

You can really get what he's trying to say through Lucifer's point of view of the world. It makes one wonder if the supposed Lord of Darkness is as bad as he seems...From this song, I personally get the feeling that it might be a bit hard to abandon all angelic feelings, even if you're the epitome of all evil.

Beauty | Reviewer: Water | 6/27/07
