Faust Arp Lyrics

Review The Song (4)Print the Lyrics
[lyrics from In Rainbows booklet]

Wakey wakey rise and shine
It's on again off again on again
Watch me fall like dominoes
In pretty patterns
Fingers in the blackbird pie
I'm tingling tingling tingling
It's what you feel not what you ought to
What you ought to,
Reasonable and sensible
Dead from the neck up
I guess I'm stuffed, stuffed, stuffed
We thought you had it in you
But no, no, no
For no real reason

Squeeze the tubes and empty bottles
I'll take a bow, take a bow, take a bow
It's what you feel not what you ought to
What you ought to,
The elephant that's in the room
Is tumbling, tumbling, tumbling
And duplicate and triplicate and
Plastic bags and
Duplicate and triplicate
Dead from the neck up
I guess I'm stuffed, stuffed, stuffed
We thought you had it in you
But no, no, no
Exactly where do you get off?
Is enough
Is enough
I love you but enough is enough,
Enough of that stuff
There's no real reason
You've got a handful of feathers
You're gonna melt into butter

Review about Faust Arp

selling your soul to the devil | Reviewer: mitch baker | 8/5/09

Faust is the protagonist of a classic German legend who makes a pact with the Devil in exchange for knowledge, ultimately selling his soul to the devil. When comparing this tale from the 1500's to todays world, one of the first things I think about is drug addiction in general. One comprises his/her health, state of mind, safety, family, freinds, pretty much EVERYTHING for a short buzz of immortality and "happiness", all while your world starts to fall apart. Also it sounds as if in the song, someone is being confronted about a drug addiction. "The elephant that's in the room
Is tumbling tumbling tumbling" could mean that the his/her problem is clearly noticeable and acknowledged. "We thought you had it in you
But not, not, not" could mean this person has had people believe in him, supporting him to drop his deathly habit, all to be let down time and time again.

Friends | Reviewer: zoe | 12/23/08

Haha this actually reminds me of my ex best friend, who evidentally had issues. It got me through the breakdown of the relationship. I love it
"Your head is stuffed with feathers"
"I love you but enough is enough"

Letting somebody down? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/2/08

I think that the lyrics are more similar to a kid who has let their parent down. I think this is supported by how the parent says "I really love you but enough is enough" and "I thought you had it in you but you don't." And saying "Wakey wakey, rise and shine" is similar to something a parent would say to their kids.

Coma? | Reviewer: Rick | 10/3/08

I think this song is about a person in a coma and the people around him/her who believe he will wake up at first, but later lose hope and eventually pull the plug.
It's a beautiful song, very calm and soothing.
