Evidence Of Autumn Lyrics
Artist(Band):Genesis
The girl from all those songs
Who made everything feel right
She came in like an angel, into your lonely life
And filling your world with light
Oh, and everybody told you "you're oh so lucky"
Curtains part revealing a country scene
Clothed in green and brown
Evidence of autumn
And recent rain
On a winding lane, a byway
Walking on that road is a certain girl
In all the world the one
Guaranteed to move you and turn your head
When all's been said and done
The girl from all those songs
Who made everything feel right
She came in like an angel, into your lonely life
And filling your world with light
Oh, and everybody told you "you're oh so lucky"
The night is clear but cool
Ooh maybe dawn is breaking as you turn to find her gone
Then you see the note
Ooh you cannot believe it
And you think you'll go insane...
But that was many years ago
And though the pain is dim
A something still remains
Though you hardly can recall
Her face or form
Her memory lingers on
Ooh she made everything feel right
She came in like an angel (in like an angel),
Into your lonely life (into your life)
And filling your world with light
Oh and everybody told you "you're oh so lucky"

Review about Evidence Of Autumn
So quintessentially English... | Reviewer: Dave Gray | 7/23/2008Everything about this song evokes the essence of England...a lost love, melancholia, green and brown autumns, "Gray's Elegy in a Churchyard," nostalgia and pensivesness. I love it. Strangely, it never received much exposure in England and only appeared on the North American version of 3 Sides Live.
a great song | Reviewer: Budi Rahardjo | 12/13/2007
Yes, this is a great song. I played it over and over again. I can feel the sadness in the song. Just like Autumn, that's fading ...
A true masterpiece | Reviewer: Wots | 11/16/2007
No doubt about it: of course this song can not compete with the solo sections of for example Firth of fifth or Cinema show, but those are the 'long songs'.
Evidence of autumn is a three-and-a-half-minute piece of music that should belong in all major top 5 Genesis polls ever.
This is as one of the other reviewers said a perfect example of Tony Banks' masterpieces.
In balance, musically as well as regarding the lyrics as well.
Thanks Tony !
Evidence of autumn/Heathaze | Reviewer: Richard Rawles | 7/8/2006
Never heard of this song until I downloaded it on limewire. Instantly recognisable as a Tony Banks composition and very similar to Heathaze from 'Duke'
Evidence of a good song signed Tony Banks | Reviewer: Chris | 8/19/2004
I really appreciate the good fit between the lyrics and the musical composition by Tony banks, invoking the Autumn, the countryside, the bitterness of the main character. At the moment where he says "insane", the music becomes surprisingly joyful. That's what I appreciate in many Tony Banks composition : his capacity for non conventional composition (verse chorus verse ...) and his ability to express mixed feelings so perfectly.
Another good example is "Calling all stations"
I regret that he is not as well known a composer as Phil Collins.
