The story of Everclear begins with the story of front man
Art Alexakis. Art grew up in the projects of Santa Monica.
Abandoned by his father and living in poverty, he was very
troubled. Growing up in the "dark 70's" he was highly
exposed to drugs, in fact he lost a girlfriend and a
brother, due to heroin. Art himself almost died from a
cocaine overdose when he was a teen.

Like many punk stars, Art refers to himself as having a bad

BEFORE YOU READ: You must read the whole thing to understand that I do think this song is amazing.

This was before I was born, so sadly, I never got to hear this song when it was popular. A few months ago, I heard Father of Mine on the radio (lol thanks 92.9), and got into Everclear. I was shocked to hear that this song was their most popular. I listened to it, and I thought it was mellow cheesy mediocre crap on a stick. I was thinking, Father of Mine is so great and deep and all that, but this is cheese.

A month ago, I heard it on the radio. I realized that this song is so amazing. I listened to it afterwards, and thought it was mellow crap again, until these lines:
"I am still dreaming of your... FACE!
Hungry and hollow for all the things you took away!"
After that point, I don't know what Art does, but with his voice, he brings this song to be one of the best songs of the 90's.

Really worth a listen.

I love this song, another one I like just as well by Everclear is Pale Green Stars (Sparkle and Fade) which is about the same subject. Poor skinny little Amanda, but she's got them pale green stars on her ceiling. This guy, I wonder what his life was like because he can write such great lyrics about stuff no one else even likes to talk about.

I listen to a lot of everclear but this is my favorite song by them. My parents got divorced when I was five and this song pretty much sums up everything. Especilly when they say "I don't wanna meet your friend, I don't wanna start over again"

it's like hearing nice words from someone older just to ease the pains and disastrous probabilities that would happen so you dont think of it negatively. the lies adults tell when we were younger. there's always that monster somewhere so we couldnt sleep. and sometimes they look like our parents. you could not just figure it that they could be that ugly when you were six because everything they told you was wonderful.

It's like that the singer is talking to the youth version of himself about what he feels when he looks back at his childhood and what he felt when he was a child. Almost exactly what I went through when I heard promises from my parents when my feelings got hurt.

This song rocks the fuck out. I am happy that the dude who posted before me, who got hurt in Iraq, can listen to this song and find peace. I think that is what music is all about: finding peace with yourself. My buddy and I are going through some medical treatment for injuries we sustained in Fallujah Iraq an dwe heard the song come on the radio. It is an older song but one of my favorites because my injuries prevent me from surfing anymore, but that is exactly what I used to do when things got crapy before my injury, sometimes I would just go out to the blow hole in my town and swim out waiting for for my set and nothing else mattered. I left everything else behind me. It really took me back a few years. I love to hear the accoustic version. sweet-

Thus, to me, is one of the greatest songs ever. I love and I can't believe I'm the 1st reviewer. Here's why. I've been best friends with this girl for a year. And I've seen.her throug family friends since we were 6 and now 17 and we've been bestfriends for almost a year and she wants me. I really like her, but I can't. Too much is ahead. This song helps me. On another note she use to always tell me her boyfriends and I'm not a fall back plan.
