Everchanging Lyrics - Rise Against

Review The Song (65)

In the face
Of change
That's when she turned to me and said
"I'm not sure anymore"

And there
Amidst the waves and the cloudless skies
That blanket the year before
I watch my life wash ashore

Have you ever been a part of something
That you thought would never end?
And then, of course it did
Have you ever felt the weight inside you
Pulling away inside your skin?
And then something had to give

Now the lines are drawn
Is this feeling gone?
sponsored links
The best parts of this have come and gone
And now that is all this is
With the reasons clear
We'll spend another year
Without direction, full of fear
And now things will be different

There's nothing simple when it comes to you and I
Always something in this everchanging life
And there probably always will
Now that time is getting harder to come by,
The same arguments are always on our mind
{We've} killed this slowly fading light

Now the lines are drawn
Is this feeling gone?
The best parts of this have come and gone
And now that is all this is
With the reasons clear
We'll spend another year
Without direction, full of fear
But now things will be different

And now something
Has kept me here too long
And you can't leave me
If I'm already gone

Well now something (hey)
Has kept me here too long
And you can't leave me (hey)
If I'm already gone

Now let's say that something (hey)
Has kept me here too long
And you can't leave me (hey)
If I'm already gone

And we make the same mistakes
We're always hanging on
Break the promises we're always leaning on
All this time spent waking up
{Now I} keep this line open to get this call from you
{As you} speak the words that keep me coming back to you
Now this time it's all different

Now something
Has kept me here too long
And now I'm gone

"But now things will be different..." | Reviewer: Dane Carpenter | 1/28/13

This song was quite meaningful to me throughout my relationship history since '08, in the way that it brought a grin to my face at the end of every verse. It's one of those songs that I've had on every iPod / phone of mine ever since it came out.

However it wasn't 'till now that I realize the depth of the lyrics. I downloaded the Tour song acoustic the other day and thought it'd be cool to get some more acoustic songs by them. Among them was this one.

I haven't been in a relationship for almost two years. This song absolutely broke me. Never has there been a song that put me on the ground in tears like this one did. Mainly the part near the end where the instruments fade and he says "You can't leave me if I'm already gone."

In addition to making you feel less alone, songs like these can contrarily do exactly the opposite and make you feel more alone than you ever have, as it did to me.

this song is like a moto for my life along with many others by rise against, and i highly sugest that you don't listen to the rythem or the music cause thats the last part of the song but analize the lyrics instead. because thats were the magic lies.

I'm so scared of this song... | Reviewer: Giraffe_Gen | 1/3/12

I'm planning to break up with my boyfriend because I just don't know what to feel anymore... I mean my parents split because of cheating, my grandparents have tons of troubles, and I just, I'm in high school so I can't pretend what we have will last. He's my first boyfriend and we rushed into things and I feel like this song is both for him and me. Cuz I'm breaking promises but I'm also the one leaving... I'm scared this will be us. But at the same time, it nearly has to be.

This song is great.

This song is amazing | Reviewer: Phil | 7/4/11

RA has always been my favourite band. I like all their songs but this one has such a deep meaning. It's like every word in this song makes perfect sense in my head. I totally get that if people say this song relates so much to them because they just ended up a relationship or remember old stories. What else could you think about in this situation when hearing the song? As far as i am concerned, I had a strange relationship a year ago. It was my first love. Everything was perfect at the beginning but we kind of drifted apart more and more the longer we were together untill we finally broke up. Well actually she broke up but it could not work out this way for any longer time anyway. I haven't got to hear from her since then. Don't know why really, neither me nor she tried to contact each other. That was over one year ago and i don't think we ever will...sometimes i catch a glimpse of her but it just feels so awkward and uncomfortable i don't want to talk to her because it has been such a weird ending. Anyway this song shows how fast things can change. But sometimes changes are also a good thing. It is what keeps the world going. People tend to constantly reflect on the bad moments instead of looking "on the bright side of live" so to speak :) Without changes life would be boring as hell...
Think i'm going to bed now. It's 2 o'clock in the morning. Keep playing this song in my head. Rise Against for the win!

this song is so addictive | Reviewer: Ethan Marano | 4/15/11

I love how rise against actually stand for something, they dont sing about all that lame pop crap, they actually have a deep meaning, not singing about tims shawty or whatever. rise against actually have knowledge aboutout what they sing about, they sing for causes that are actually important. feel free to email me about rise. FUCK YEAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!

this song will forever be my favourite song ever | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/23/10

Its funny, i was introduced to this song 2 years ago by my ex boyfriend, whom i have only just broken up with and well lets just say he was my first love. This song always made me smile for some reason but its only now i truly understand the lyrics.

I miss him so much he broke my heart but i can understand why he did it, and this song has just made me remember the good times we had and keep them as fond memories rather than trying to bring them back. Things change, people change and unfortunately that is how the world works. wish it didn't sometimes.

It's funny - I've known about this band for the past couple of years and I absolutely fucking love them, but only discovered in this song in the past week or so.
It's funny because I just happen to find this song when I'm in the middle of trying to figure out whether the relationship I'm currently in (and have been on and off for the past 3 and a bit years) is worth working for anymore.
We've been together since just before I turned 16, and I'm now 19. I didn't want to give up at first, because he was supposed to be my forever thing, you know? But it's just... gotten so bad.

"Now that time is getting harder to come by,
the same arguments are always on our minds"

I'm breaking up with him tomorrow. I can't work at it anymore. And I know he's close to giving up, too.
I'll miss him, though. He was my first real love.
At least we'll always have that...

To the person that wrote this, I'm going through the EXACT same thing except we broke things off last night. Last night this song was on repeat on my iTunes and it will still continue for who knows how long.
We have been together for almost four years and 3 of those years it has been on and off because of the same arguments over and over. He was my very first love, I've known him almost all my life. My crush since grade 4. We have been together since the beginning of grade 8 up until now, grade 12. I want to work it out because it was suppose to be forever, he's the only one who was there when no one else was. Ever since I was a child I was always alone. He was my only love, my best friend, my everything. Things are everchanging, and now I'm just clinging on to our past, trying to keep things the same and they're not. Now I realize that I'm just holding on to the past. Were just standing still. Moving nowhere with these same arguments, going in circles. Breaking up and getting back together so much that we don't take each others words as seriously as it should because we act carelessly. It has become more of a comfort or familiarity thing instead of what it once was. Amazing. The best parts of our relationship have come and gone, and now I'm just going to have to move on.

This song is an inspiration to me and I'm sure many others.
RA is such an amazing, influential band. I absolutely love them!!

-I too am going through the exact same thing! Me and my girl fell in love a year ago and things have changed so much since then, everything is stress and a fight. when we met, she was the one who was there for me when nobody else was and her family felt like my true family. We though we were "the one", we were going to try to go on forever, but now the struggle is too much. we just weren't meant for each other. It's time for me accept that and move on.

I can's keep on looking back at the past and try to make it like that once again. Life IS everchanging and we change too. It will be the hardest thing I have ever done, she was my first love and will always hold that special place in my heart, but we just need to be done now and stop agonizing each other.

This song has helped me reflect so much and has even helped me accept that it needs to be over, so thank you so much Rise Against for this beautiful, meaningful, heartfelt, revolutionary song that has helped me and so many others get through the toughest times in their lives.

Here's to you. Long live Rise Against.

not so backwards thinking | Reviewer: Darrell | 4/29/10

"this is a great song, but i can't help to notice how people only really appreciate it when they can relate to it. if you ask me bliss would be listening to this song when you have a girlfriend, or swing life or like the angle after you just broke up."
This review will mostly be a response to that comment. While that would provide someone with a different light of thinking, it doesn't necessarily apply here. Most people listen to songs they relate to because it helps them feel less alone, like they aren't the only ones that feel like that. It's that sense of fellowship that helps them which is why listening to songs you relate to is very common. Most of the time giving people a sense of strength/hope in time of need.

However, I've been listening to this song having not just broken up with a girlfriend, and it's still just as amazing as I could imagine it would be if I had. Ignoring the lyrics the sound just seems very upbeat and makes me happy. Even with the lyrics, I can look at it as some kind of enlightenment is brought upon one if you look at it the right way.

I seem to be yet another victim to this song!

I have been a huge fan of RA for years, always loved this song.. yet listening to it this time, with relationship questions running through my head, it has made things clear.

I need to end it...

This song really is special!
and one else reading this with the same ting in your head.. do what you know you should!

RA is a great band and alot of their songs are amazing... alot of the reviews here mention that this song fits them because they just ended a relationship but all of RA's songs are great... it's strange how you can appreciate a song such as this one and then something happens in your life and then the lyrics of some of your favorite songs suddenly mean so much more because you can relate on a level you couldn't before... but yes Def another GREAT song by RA

everchanging | Reviewer: john | 5/11/09

in terms of lyrics. i would say this is the best RA song. it's incredibly poetic and emotional, definitely a very rare thing in music nowadays. i love how it's gotten people to open up about themselves and their hurts. just goes to show just how personal and uniquely beautiful RA's songs are.
