Europe Lyrics

the history of Europe began on 1979, when Joey Tempest
makes a group named FORCE. Only one year after, Force
records its first demo-tape. In that time, FORCE is formed

Olsson playing the bass and Tony Reno on drums. The
demo-tape gets a negative response from the record
companies. 1 year after, Peter decides to leave the group,
and he is replaced by John Levén. In 1982, it comes the big
step to the rock starship: they win a rock talent contest
and they record their first Lp. At More...

------ About the song The Final Countdown performed by Europe

This song has has single-handedly ruined keyboards for me forever. An absolute atrocity upon the ears. Everything that was terrible about the 80s all wrapped up in one stinker of a song. The main riff will steal your soul and crush your dreams with it's unrelenting awfulness.

------ About the song The Final Countdown performed by Europe

The song's lyrics were inspired by David Bowie's song "Space Oddity" not some gay dude leaving his lover. Retard!

We're leaving together
But still it's farewell
And maybe we'll come back
To earth, who can tell?
I guess there is no one to blame
We're leaving ground
Will things ever be the same again?

It's the final countdown
The final countdown

Ohh
We're heading for Venus and still we stand tall
'Cause maybe they've seen us and welcome us all, yea
With so many light years to go and things to be found
(To be found)
I'm sure that we'll all miss her so

Innocense and Hope | Reviewer: dsire
------ About the song The Final Countdown performed by Europe

I agree with the former reviewer in that this song has nothing to do with homosexuality or any kind of sexuality for matter. I was a young teenager during the 80's/90's and along with wonderful variety, so much of the music back then was infused with hope and belief in endless possibilities for our future. The Final Countdown is a beautiful piece of work that was definitely ahead of itself and is most assuredly about venturing into space and exploration. The magnificent possibilities and potential that awaits us. Simply put, it was and is a song of innocence and hope.

peace ;o)

------ About the song The Final Countdown performed by Europe

How does Venus's sign being the female symbol have anything to do with being gay? and i would like to point out that it says "All miss HER so"

I don't think this is about being gay, I think it's about the Sci-Fi era, and I actually think I found a relation between this song and the movie Serenity.

So there we have it. You're wrong

------ About the song The final countdown performed by Europe

final countdown is really a very great song coz it can always be interpreted in several ways.the song originally has its roots in space-age culture which originated due to avant-garde movies like "star-wars" and "total recall".the music is quiet ahead of its times and reaches the depths of the mind....i love this song.

EUROPE IS GAY | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song The final countdown performed by Europe

This song is about the homosexual culture's burst into the music in the 80's.

"Oh, We're heading for Venus (The symbol of the planet Venus is ♀)
and still we stand tall
cause maybe they've seen us
and welcome us all, yeah"

means that the writer and his gay lover are coming out of the closet.

"with so many light years to go
and things to be found (to be found)
I'm sure that we'll all miss her so
It's the final countdown."

However, the writer doesn't feel his lover is 'the one' and plans to dump him in the future. Also, it's worth noting that 'Venus' and 'to be found' are the only two repeated lyrics, which suggests that they are related. He intends to miss his current boyfriend.

We can thus ask ourselves, "The countdown to what?"

In the first stanza, it can be assumed that the final countdown represents coming out of the closet, while it represents Venus. However, it is actually the countdown to when he dumps his boyfriend.

What's really interesting is that the theme carries over with The Darkness - I Believe in a Thing Called Love.

------ About the song The final countdown performed by Europe

Despite the fact that the song was written about ten years before it happened, it seems as though it could be about the heaven's gate cult. The group committed mass suicide (we're leaving together) to get to a spaceship (we're leaving ground ... we're heading for Venus).

------ About the song The final countdown performed by Europe

I work on a oil field in the Gulf of Mexico and we love singing aloud cheesy but catchy songs as we work. Its funny and makes the two weeks at a time we spend out there suck a little less. Especially as the countdown to our departure of the rig gets closer
