The old man's sitting there, his head bowed down
Every now and then he'll take a look around
And his eyes reflect the memory-pain of years gone by
He can't regain nostalgic dreams he'll never see again
With trembling hands, he wipes a tear
Many fall like rain, there's one for every year
And his life laid out so clearly now, life that's brought death
So nearly now life once he clung to dearly now lets go
But spare a thought as you pass him by
Take a closer look and you'll say
He's our tomorrow, just as much as we are his yesterday
A lonely grave, and soon forgot
Only wind and leaves lament his mournful song
Yet they shout his epitaph out clear
For anyone who's passing near
It names the person lying here as you
And you...and you...and you...

I ejoy all types of music. metal has always had my heart - good ol' fashion metal - not frantic thrash noise. sad wings is the go to album for all things metal and what a range of concept! epitaph is certainly the most fundemental summation of the human condition. it don't get no deeper!
this song remind how much stupid is fearing: you live for a whhile fearing the unforgottable shadow of annihilation(death), then, when all is over, you don't care anymore, and what you feared the whole life, now is the thing that give you peace.
I'm 17 and Sad Wings of Destiny was the first Judas Priest cd I actually bought and Epitaph is the song that really caught my attention...Right now I'm using it for a minor project at school,we're to create our own Epitaph and this song is written in the background of my tombstone drawing with my own epitaph's written inside it.
I love this song. I have listened to it for over 30 years, which is sometimes very hard to admit. The harmonies and such are like no other we have ever heard and yet, they remind of us what we already know.
