Elvenpath Lyrics - Nightwish
Review The Song (15)
(In the sheltering shade of the forest
Calling calming silence
Accompanied only by the full moon
The howling of a night wolf
And the path under my bare feet...
...The Elvenpath)
Hearing music from the deepest forest
Songs as a seduction of sirens
The elf-folk is calling me
Tapio, Bear-king, Ruler of the forest
Mielikki, Bluecloak, Healer of the ill and sad
Open the gate and let me follow the uncurving path
The way to the lands
Where as a hero I stand
The path where Beauty met the Beast
Elvenpath
It's the honesty of these worlds
Ruled by magic and mighty swords
That makes my soul long for the past
Elvenpath
The moonwitch took me to a ride on a broomstick
Introduced me to her old friend home gnome
Told me to keep the sauna warm for him
At the grove I met the rest - the folk of my fantasies
Bilbo, Sparhawk, goblins and pixies
Snowman, Willow, trolls and the seven dwarves
The path goes forever on
The way to the lands
Where as a hero I stand
The path where Beauty met the Beast
Elvenpath
It's the honesty of these worlds
Ruled by magic and mighty swords
That makes my soul long for the past
Elvenpath
(Long ago,
In the early years of the second age,
The great elven-smiths forged the Rings of Power.)
As I return to my room
And as sleep takes me by my hand
Madrigals from the woods
Carry me to neverland
In this spellbound night
The world's an elvish sight
In this spellbound night
The world's an elvish sight
(But then the dark lord learned the craft of ring-making,
And made the Master Ring.)
Calling calming silence
Accompanied only by the full moon
The howling of a night wolf
And the path under my bare feet...

Hearing music from the deepest forest

Yes, lotr, but still. | Reviewer: :> | 2/17/13
It has some references to LotR, but it's still strongly influenced by the Finnish mythology in which Tapio is the "God" of the forest etc. it's all to be found in the Kalevala-epic.

I always loved this song but I'm glad I never really understood the lyrics until now. Because, seriously, the words "moonwitch","gnome" and "sauna" don't belong in the same verse.
seven dwarves | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/17/11
the Fellowship of the rings states that there are only seven of Thorin's dwarves left
'At the grove I met the rest - the folk of my fantasies
Bilbo, Sparhawk, goblins and pixies
Snowman, Willow, trolls and the seven dwarves
The path goes forever on'
i think this line relates to them
Mystical song | Reviewer: Caladhiel | 8/17/11
I love this song it makes me think of the forest I grew up near (still live close to it!!)It also helps me feel close to nature, this is an amazing song, and the tune and lyrics are sort of mystical, I love ELVES!!!!

I think this song is okay. It's not a favorite of mine even though I think it's the first song I listened to by Nightwish. It feels like a tribute to Lord of the Rings. I love that series and I love fantasy so I love the lyrics.

It appears to me that this song isn't so much a tribute (though it clearly partially is), but the longing of such a world, where someone can truly fight for their beliefs, their worlds, and their ways. Of course, I'm just some crazy guy speculating, but hey, I've been right before.
AMAZING SONG!!! | Reviewer: Will | 4/1/08

Fantasy lover's song!! | Reviewer: Seth | 2/19/08
This song lists almost all the key points of the fantasy genre; Swords, Magic, mystic races, etc. It even lists a couple of the greatest characters from fantasy: Bilbo Baggins and Sparhawk, from The Hobbit and The Elenium/Tamuli, respectively. If you like fantasy, this is your song!
Little addings | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/11/08
Holopainen is thinking mostly with his right brains so his mind is based on fantasy :D. The Lord of the Rings is taking one part of this song, but this also includes some characters from mytology of Finland. Tapio is the Lord of Woods and his realm is also called Tapiola and Mielikki (Aninka) is the spouse of Tapio. Hunters had usually sing to her to get their share of the prey. This mytology is all told in finnish national epos, Kalevala, and the stories that is in it are collected by Elias Lönnrot. Also these tales tell about a seer named Väinämöinen, who sailed away when Kiesus (Jesus Christ) came to the world.
Answer for Raine | Reviewer: Freya Kissa | 1/31/08
It's written by Tuomas Holopainen's (keyboardist) point of view. One of his dreams. He's obsessed with all those things and fantasy in general- including Lord of the Rings. He merely mentions it.
Question | Reviewer: Raine | 1/23/08
Odd question probably, but who's viewpoint do you think this was written from? I know it's definitely about Lord of the Rings..so I'm guessing either Frodo or Aragorn's. Anyone know?
WONDERFUL | Reviewer: Aaron | 11/20/07
An awesome song that is one of my 3 favs. Too bad that the singer's voice on my mp3 is a bit lower than the background music so it isn't so undertandable
Amazing Tarja | Reviewer: George afeiche | 10/11/07
Tarja Turunen is probably the best soprano rock has ever known.Nghwish music cannot be described. These guys are phenomenal.
Awesome song! | Reviewer: icshadows_tc@yahoo.de | 6/17/07
I cannot stop listening to this song and it even forces me to sing along each single time I hear it - Nightwish is a fabulous band! And this song is one of my favorites!

A great song by a great band. More people need to hear of Nightwish. Even if the band is a little old and lost a member, all their songs are amazing.
