Elliott Smith Lyrics

Steven Paul Smith was born on August 6, 1969 to Bunny and
Gary Smith, who were then living in Omaha, Nebraska. About
a year later Elliott's parents decided to divorce. Bunny
moved to Texas, taking with her Elliott, who was raised in
the Duncanville area (near Dallas).

Asked about his earliest memory, he once replied: "Playing
on a gravel embankment next to a highway in Dallas. I found
a turtle, picked him up and he peed on my hand."

Technology was a challenge to which he rose at an early
age. "My first memory," he recalled on another More...

------ About the song Last Call performed by Elliott Smith

I love this song, first I have ever heard of it. I am in recoovery. By the BY THE GRACE OF GOD THERE GO I. I needed this song as selfish as it seems, When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.

------ About the song Between The Bars performed by Elliott Smith

I believe in retrospective it's easy to think this was about himself and his addiction to alcohol. However, each one of Elliott's songs, no matter how personal they seem, is able to relate to other people's lives in different ways, and that's why he's been such a great songwriter.
I like to think this song depicts a love relationship between two alcoholics, much like in "Leaving Las Vegas". It probably wasn't intended this way, but I don't care. It's lovely.

------ About the song Between The Bars performed by Elliott Smith

It's the saddest lullaby I,ve ever listened.
It's the alcoholism wich is talking to Elliot, telling to fall in it arms and forget all about. People who push and surely love him "and don“t want anymore" beautiful and sad.

------ About the song Waltz #2 (XO) performed by Elliott Smith

Thanks Amanda commenter #1--absolutely killer explanation of the song. It's a karaoke bar, two great old songs, drama with the mom and stepdad. I love ES, so sorry he's gone. Let's all agree to stay on and keep doing our best work. My oldest friend is never happy but he writes excellent poetry (seriously).

------ About the song Twilight performed by Elliott Smith

I know its impossible to really know what was going through elliot's head but what i do know is for what he let out,a lot of people could relate to his songs. What i like the most is that they not only have great lyrics good artists can do that, but great artists can have a real emotional vibe thats just real and can provoke the listeners thoughts like no other, for that i am so grateful for having the chance to listening to elliot's music

Predicting his own death | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Between The Bars performed by Elliott Smith

This song is about him and his demons. He knows that one day he'll die if he keeps drinking and doing drugs BUT he sees no choice. Ultimately he died (or possibly was murdered by his girlfriend) in a fairly "clean" state, but he died young nevertheless. He saw his inevitable future and that's how I read his song.
A beautiful song for sure.

------ About the song Alphabet Town performed by Elliott Smith

Elliott was referencing the Alphabet District in Portland, Oregon.... a part of the USA littered with cold/dreary weather and too many bars with cheap drinks. The girl that fu***d him over... I hope she is aware of this song and the beautiful art this man made in his short life... although I am sure she was a international tourist and has no idea of Elliott, this song or his music... and I'm sure HE KNEW THAT... and that's why he let this tune out.
