Every album they released I’d rush out and get it at the first opportunity, get home, put it on and think, hmm, that was disappointing. Still amazing to listen to after all these years. I started listening to Pink Floyd around 1972. I've been an avid fan of everything they did ever since. But I can still remember the first night I listened to Echoes. It was winter, very cold outside and I had the lights off in my bedroom as I laid in my bed with Echoes playing on my record player. Waters may have alluded to Coleridge's The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner (which is a beautiful poem itself) with the first lyrics. "The albatross hangs motionless upon the air." Notice how the albatross happens to Hang, motionless, in the air. Could be possibly interpreted as a cloud of regret and remembrance of sins and wrongs in the writer. All in all. I LOVE PINK FLOYD!
