On the other hand, I understand that the deeper idea of the song is generally only one: What ever we are speaking about, it seems to be nice from the beginning, but later on it can be a trap. We can speak about a good position at work, as well as about marriage, possetion of nice things, or about almost everything, e.g. drugs.
The Genius of the song is rooted in the simple fact that we ourselves play very often and very willingly the role of prisoners, EVEN IF WE CAN LEAVE. It is our good living standard, habits, fear of change etc., that makes us to become prisoners. Of course, to make the thing worse, similar jail is often created for us also by our partners, relatives, emploers, church and godness knows who else. But again very often we can leave, but we do not. So I would say that very often we ourselves are the jailers of ourselves. And this is a general meaning of the song regardless of the subject (out of us) we choose, I guess.

why do most people drag religion into this great song?

more crimes against humanity have been perpetrated because of religion than any other reason...being an atheist I just see this song as a general truth about colonization...a perpetual truth about humans....religion=superstition... a crutch to hold onto........there is nothing after death people...sad but true. Many accounts of people dying & being revived...death brings a black void.

Amazing song! My take on lyrics is simply this. Someone who has had their heart broken and is afraid to take another chance of having it broken again. Lyricist is saying 'don't sit on the fence fir the rest of your life - even if u get hurt again, get out there and try it again'. Love the lyrics, love the tune abd love the Eagles. Can't believe some peers of mine hv never heard of the song and (unbelievably) some have never even heard of the Eagles. Get a life!

As far as I know thou real point of the song is more close to show business, describing corruption and evils of the land of great ambitions. Whatever the meaning is, song itself is genius.

from what i think, this song is about an organisation, the organisation invites you to join them, but you didn't know that the organisation is corrupted and evil so when you knew what's happening its already too late, you had join the organisation and you can't get out of it,

The purpose of the song is not to blame Christians or Christianity for the decay of society. The song is based on the idea of a very important era of US historical significance, that of Westward Expansion. Manifest Destiny was the idea that Americans were "mandated by Heaven" to move west and exploit the land for a profit in the name of progress and the United States "justified" their reasons in the name of God. Please get of your Holier than thou soap box and listen to the song. I too have been a Christian for many many years and not at any point have I ever been offended by this song. It was written as a political statement by the Eagles and is a statement of opinion on the ecological problems and why they were created. It is a story of US History.

Personally, I think the song tackles everything from relationship problems, isolation, fear, growing old, responsibilities, self esteem, depression, wanting what u can't have, and society in general. The bottom line is that loneliness is the message throughout the entire song. It says a lot in so little time that you can't help but play it more than once everytime u listen to it. " don't your feet get cold in the winter time, the sky won't snow and the sun won't shine. It's hard to tell the nighttime from the day". Wow.. Incredible song writing, one of the best of it's time. Rock On Eagles. Don Henley voice just puts this song exactly where it should be. Close to your heart.

Hotel California simply means Church of Satan. It really exists. Members of Eagles are members of that church. The song simply describes you the hell. It is very inviting but once you entered it, you can never get out. "You can check out anytime you like but you can never leave!"
I'm sure you don't want to go to hell, right? So, open your heart to Jesus and accept Him as Lord and Saviour. Ask Him to open your eyes so you can see and understand how much He loves you! Accept His plans for your life. Ok? God bless you. :) Jesus really do love you. Trust in Him.

Either way, he needs to get off the fence and open the gate. Fear of chane is driving this man home to a life where he is emotionally and sexually unfullfilled. He will open the gate soon and come to his senses.
