BORN: April 16, 1939, Hampstead, London, England

Britain's greatest pop diva, Dusty Springfield was also the
finest white soul singer of her era, a performer of
remarkable emotional resonance whose body of work spans the
decades and their attendant musical transformations with a
consistency and purity unmatched by any of her
contemporaries; though a camp icon of glamourous excess in
her towering beehive hairdo and panda-eye black mascara,
the sultry intimacy and heartbreaking urgency of
Springfield's voice transcended image and fashion,
embracing everything from lushly-orchestrated pop to gritty
R&B to disco with unparalleled sophistication and depth.

Dusty Springfield has the greatest voice I have ever heard from Britain. She and Linda Ronstadt are my favorite of all time. Dusty's voice gives me "goosebumps" when I hear her sing. Unfortunately, the majority of her songs were not written very well. It's too bad she has passed on. I would have loved to have met her and if she would have sung some of my 300 original songs, she would have had more hits.

------ About the song In Private performed by Dusty Springfield
I heard this song during a trip through the USA in 1989. It was one of the best holidays I had in my life and I still remember this when I hear this song.
When I was back in the Netherlands I asked about it, but they did not hear about it then.
Later on, it came in the hitparade here.

------ About the song Goin' Back performed by Dusty Springfield
My friend died recently at the age of 59.
At her funeral, her casket was surrounded by pall-bearers bowing their heads in respect, whilst the song played. It was so sad but beautiful too.
For Dusty who gave her all and was treated so shabbily in the end by Phillips, it is the crowning shame that her greatest work -- "See All Her Faces" -- has never received the credit it is due.
From the haunting title song to the final track, the ride is stunning, powerful and unforgettable.
For anyone who has been on stage..it is a humbling and vulnerable position.
These lyrics really nail this from a performers point of view and makes others think of the respect that performers deserve for their dedication to their ultimate art of expression for others to savor and enjoy! Take note the next time you are inclined to criticize or heckle.

I also prefer Freddie's version as Larry Lurex, but also the Springfield-version, the Byrds version and the Johnny Logan version are great!
The text is so timeless, beautiful

------ About the song Who Gets Your Love performed by Dusty Springfield
This Lambert & Potter penned song by Dusty Springfield was recorded for the ‘Cameo’ Album and remains my all time favourite song by her. On the whole I was somewhat disappointed with Cameo, Dusty's husky elegant voice is still prominent but the quality of the songs let the album down badly. 'Learn to Say Goodbye' and 'Who Gets Your Love' where the albums saving grace’s and make ‘Cameo’ worth the purchase just for these two tracks alone. 'Who Gets Your Love' was reminiscent of 'The Look of Love' in so much that Dusty gave such a bitter sweet quality performance it made the hairs of my neck stand on end, it's also a top notch quality song. Lambert & Potter must have been very proud of the fact that Dusty Springfield was the ideal choice to do it justice.
