Drones Lyrics - Rise Against
Review The Song (36)
Deep inside these burning buildings
Voices die to be heard
Years we spent teaching a lesson
We ourselves had never learned
And if strength is born from heartbreak
Then mountains I could move
And if walls could speak I'd pray
That they would tell me what to do
If you see me, please just walk on by, walk on by.
Forget my name and I'll forget it too.
Failed attempts at living simple lives, simple lives
Are what keep me coming back to you.
No signs of life here, save the embers, the occasional flame,
We'd know the way but can't remember, conception to the grave,
Shout confessions from the greatest heights, where no one can hear,
All my fears, my insecurities are falling like tears.
If you see me, please just walk on by, walk on by.
Forget my name and I'll forget it too.
Failed attempts at living simple lives, simple lives
Are what keep me coming back to you.
The drones all slave away, they're working overtime,
They serve a faceless queen, they never question why.
Disciples of a God, that neither lives nor breathes, (I won't come back!)
But we have bills to pay, yeah we have mouths to feed! (I won't come back!)
I won't come back!
And if you see me, please just walk on by, walk on by.
Forget my name and I'll forget it too.
Failed attempts at living simple lives, simple lives
Are what keep me coming back to you.
I'm coming back to you
Voices die to be heard
Years we spent teaching a lesson
We ourselves had never learned
And if strength is born from heartbreak
Then mountains I could move
And if walls could speak I'd pray
That they would tell me what to do
If you see me, please just walk on by, walk on by.

reply of relligions of conspiracy (anti - prejudice) | Reviewer: ThedemonsPOV | 3/29/12
the problem, is not relligion itself, but the prejudice that follows with it, the judgement, and brutality from focusing on only one entity without feeling anothers pain... you may not know it, but relligion is a theory, the truth of hell and heaven HAVE NEVER been actually discovered, the truth lies smoldered under both satanists and christians, satan isnt a real name: it is stereotypical, and used i most genres to racially discriminate demons for genetic appearance, etc. if there IS a god, and IF HE DOES love all, why is the race of demons SO HATED? if what said about relligion is true you must open your heart to everyones possitions and heir views, and dissolve sides that make walls and corners. would you beat up and murder a demon if he'd done nothing wrong, all becuase of his appearance, and not of innocence or guiltyness? pfft, probably.
This song teaches youtoignore a person of what theyve done, and what they may become, and walk on by as if not holding a grudge... it doesnt matter what symbol you hold, what appearance you have, it all matters in innocence and anti prejudice. this is my theory, antiprejudice religion, and can be taken as Q4, I wish for world harmony and go against human brutality. this is to the latest replyer of alexxe at the top on page 1.

Apparently there is a science & relgion debate going on here. I don't care to read all the comments. I interpret the "disciples of a god" line not as a religion thing. In my opinion (and it may not be correct or yours) it is referring to how humanity has become slaves of the government.
Dear Alexxe | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/27/11
Your first two questions don't have sufficient answers, because they aren't sufficient question. I might ask you "If the sky is supposed to be red, why don't we think of blood every time we look at it?" The answer lies in that the sky isn't red, just as nobody ever said that nothing existed before hand ("In the beginning, God created..."), and nobody (that I know of anyway) ever said he made everything as it is now. The answer to your third question is, however, very easy to answer: If there is an almighty God, then that implies that he can pretty much do whatever he feels like doing, which includes creating something out of nothing. But I think the last person to post does have a point. Why are we bringing religion into an obviously non-religious song?

Look all of you do have good points in this arguement of Science vs religion but why start an arguement of that callibur over this song??? The lyrics to this song are simple to understand. It's the arguement of why humanity feels like it has to be complacent with what is given as said in an earlier review. It always raises questions as to why we never try to forward ourselves not technologically but in our daily lives, if you want to put it into the turm of improving our souls then feel free. There isn't an arguement in this song but a simple message do what we can to make our lives better. stop driving down the same street, same time, everyday but to try new things and make ourselves happier with what we have got and what we can achieve :). If you dont follow the same view as me then feel free to argue over my points but i just respect the simple messages percieved in songs like this one and others. If anything we should probably not continue the arguement and take the message of trying to enjoy our lives from this song... And considering all of this is coming from a satanist i think we can all agree ty for reading my review sorry for its length.

Just because you don't understand how chemical compounds could have formed everything that exists now doesn't mean it isn't what happened... And in the beggining there was 4 chemical compound that are the basic elements of every living form/non-living form that exists... so life has not been made out of nothing... this is a basic law in science... Nothing can be lost, nothing can be created, but anything can be transformed... According to the God theory... everything was made exactly the way it is now... so how do you explain evolution ? and if nothing existed at that time.. How could God existed ? and how did he created a whole world out of nothing... ? simple questions that sadly doesn't have any answers...
(sorry for my english)
a continuation to this argument.... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/20/11
"Science & religion can't coexist."
Says who? You haven't given anyone any proof for that statement. All you did, was give a few common scientific facts, and bash religion. Like the guy with the bad grammar said, they actually compliment each other. Of course, there are other ways to try to disprove certain portions of the bible, or certain characteristics of God, but you cannot find any proof that one doesn't exist, even if he doesn't. And not everyone who believes in a religion (more specifically Christianity, because that's what I'm assuming you're referring to) are greedy, hypocritical, and adulterous.
a lesson in logic, response to Jeff | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/1/11
u seem to think u know a lot about science. i think that's hilarious. ex nihilo nihil fit. do u happen to know what this means? this is one of the oldest philosophical principles of rational philosophy, simply meaning that out of nothing, nothing comes. if this is true (which it is), u are mistaken on denying the existence of God. even if i did not follow any religion, i could not deny the existence of a god. it would be utterly stupid and show just how little i knew about everything. can science make anything out of nothing? no. u absolutely must have something, to make something else. to say that in the beginning there was nothing and then BOOM, suddenly we have a couple of molecules or atoms or whatever they supposedly were, and somehow they reacted and multiplied and that got us to where we are now, is not science, but fantasy. God is not fantasy, God is the only explanation that makes any logical sense. the fact that God made the universe out of nothing is sound logic, because by definition, God can do the impossible. having said that, science and religion do not only co-exist, they compliment each other. a sound religion strives for the truth, and real science is the study of the truths of the universe. there cannot be more than one truth; they are both the same truth or one or must be a lie. and since the no god "truth" makes no sense to a sane person, then God must exist. think this over my friend, maybe religion isn't as quack as u think;) that concludes our lesson in logic, and GOD BLESS YOU!!!
P.S. it's 12:42 and u r loved!

Life was indeed, never "MEANT" to be. Life is merely a complex physical process. Physics complicates to become "chemistry" & that builds once again across a human derived threshold to become what we call biology, or the cycle of life. To live for the sake of living is the smartest thing we can do, because it's all we have. You need a science lesson you religious quack. You are nothing more than stardust. You are not that significant. There is no plan for you. You imaginary friend can't see you wipe your ass every morning because he is only imaginary. A figment of your own imagination. Your "consciousness" will return to the state it was before your brain was a brain. Non-existent. We haven't pushed the "big red button" because we naturally, inherently have a lust for life. An affinity for it. That is why we're here, because under the right circumstances, chemical compounds will replicate themselves when supplied w/the necessary raw material & energy. When circumstances permit an advantage, a property that facilitates continued replication within the environment, then it occurs. The dinosaurs had their chance, they failed to adapt to their environment to last beyond their time. We can see asteroids coming, thanks to the scientific process & the few, brilliant minds that evolved to implement it. Maybe we will have a big red button to push that will knock Apophus out of our way & save us for the time being, when the time comes. Or maybe we'll spend all our time fighting holy wars & never even have to bother worrying about what to do when the sun explodes in ~4.5 billion years. If your life is so petty even to yourself, do us all a favor & go be with your "God". Please take the zealous, adulterous, greedy, hypocritical, fraudulent Jimmy Swaggarts, Ted Haggards & Creflo Dollars w/you. Science & religion cannot co-exist. Womens lib', gay rights, atom smashers, proton beams........ science is winning. Science will always win, because it is our advantage in our environment. "Survival of the fittest" is not a religious phenomenon, it's a very real one. Make your choice. Ignorance is bliss, but knowledge is power.
RISE AGAINST religious oppression, DRONE.

Rise against has great instrument maybe not the absolute best but they have a kick ass lineup and there lyrics are among the best lyrics and all my friends think they're a metal image band that people listen to to sound bad ass I think they're one of the best new bands but I still am stuck on classic rock and country

Jon- I would totally agree with you in saying the fact that living life simply for the sake of living life is a stupid thing to do, and that your option- push the big red button- would be the best idea we all lived for the sake of living. The question is, why havent we done this then? The answer is becaus e there is something greater than our petty lives, and that is God. Without God, life is totally pointless.
jon's comment | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/15/10
i agree with Jon's comment. Humanity most deadly "virus" is humanity itself. humanity is a virus that is slowly destroying the planet and will probably be the cause of the sixth great mass extinction. life is merely a struggle to survive and death is the ultimate release freeing you from all your struggles.
Glass Everything | Reviewer: Jon | 10/21/10
Rise Against puts put some great messages to society; however, I don't agree with what any of you are saying.
Jefferson hit the nail, right on the head when he said Life Liberty and the PURSUIT of happiness. Man can never achieve happiness.
it doesn't matter how much money a man has, he will never be happy. it will only allow him to mot be sad.
I believe that going through life aimlessly is stupid, but I also believe that trying to break away from it is more stupid. By the time you have achieved your goal, you're old and worn out. You can't do the things you wished you could have done in your youth.
My solution would be to torch it all. Press the Big Red Button, and kill everything and everyone on this planet... leave only nothingness. This is the only way to save the world.
End Sorrow, end greed, end sin, end evil. Humanity must be stopped, and as long as one person survives, the whole cycle will repeat.
Fantastic song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/7/10
Idd say this - as i find most of their songs - is a story. It tells about a person who got sick and tired of his lifestyles, so he left everything. His family, work - everything. To live the life he wants (which he can't live cause he fails, and he even prays the walls will tell him what to do, cause he himself does not know)
fans view | Reviewer: Jared | 9/17/09
Rise against has alot of music that really gets you thinking, you may not realize it with the first listen, but it has true meaning. They are not afraid to give their message to everyone, and i praise them for that. some of the best lyrics you can get.
Simpler lives | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/27/09
This song seems to speak about how life is just one repetitive motion and how humanity has become "drones" of not a government nor a God, but of something much simpler - of the life we live and the complacency that we have, our unwillingness to change our ways of living, etc.
"Failed attempts at living simple lives, simple lives, are what keep me coming back to you."
We need to try and live simpler lives not so complicated by technological advances or things that will ultimately cause us to become emotionless drones, incapable of thinking or feeling for ourselves and needing people (or machines even) to tell us what to do, how to feel, etc.
