Dreams Lyrics - The Allman Brothers Band

Review The Song (4)

by Gregg Allman

Just one more mornin'
I had to wake up with the blues
Pulled myself outta bed … yeah
Put on my walkin' shoes
Went up on the mountain
To see what I could see
The whole world was fallin' … right down in front of me

'Cause I’ve a hunger … for dreams I'll never see
Yeah baby
Ohh-ahhh, help me baby … ohhh … or this will surely be … the end of me, yeah

Pull myself together … put on a new face
Climb down off the hilltop, baby
Get back in the race

Ohhh … 'cause I’ve a hunger … for dreams I'll never see
Yeah baby … yeah huh

Ahh!
Yeah, yeah!
Ohhahhh!
Ohhhahh!

"Dreams" a blues masterpiece. | Reviewer: Patrick Chase | 6/27/12

I've listened to, enjoyed, and analyzed "Dreams" at least a thousand times. The lyrics are about Depression and trying to overcome it. No girl lost- just trying to make one's dreams happen and struggling to get up out of bed and put on one's walking shoes to get through the day. The synergies in the music among the musicians are absolutely amazing; from the base-line, the percussionists, to the guitars. The transitions between the simple themes is seamless. A truly remarkable, inspiring song.

Too real | Reviewer: John | 4/19/11

Driving in to work this morning after a couple of really hard weeks I heard this song and it was like it was speaking right too me. So much so that I had to rewind the radio and listen again (satellite radio has rewind, I'm not crazy!). Suffice it to say, I'm in a better place today and my thought are clearer. I'm never surprised what the right song can do at the right moment.

Surreal ... and Real | Reviewer: Todd Sentell | 1/1/10

Amen, Brent.

This is one of the great modern blues songs. Surreal. Even a little spooky, but after much contemplation ... it's actually inspiring, too. And it's also sung by the greatest white blues singer in history … or ever will be, Gregg Allman.
I will never tire of listening to this song and to studying its words and phrases.

Rock on. Dream on.

Archetypal Epic Blues Masterwork! | Reviewer: Brent Funderburk | 11/12/09

Classic archetypal human restlessness a la Joseph Campbell- hints that a woman is involved- and that "the race" seems unavoidable, but I think our hero is about to disembark.

Gilgamesh, Luke Skywalker, Odysseus, Annie Dillard, Basho; whomever- we must each see from the mountaintop, and go find who we really are.

Thanks, Greg- this is one of the most beautiful, contemplative, mythologically true blues songs ever written/performed.
