Dreams Be Dreams Lyrics - Jack Johnson
Review The Song (10)
She's just waiting for the summertime when the weathers fine
She could hitch a ride out of town
And so far away from that low down good for nothing mistake making fool
With excuses like baby that was a long time ago
But that's just a euphemism if you want the truth he was out of control
But a short times just a long time then your mind just won't let it go
Well summer came along and it then was gone and so was she
Not from him because he followed her just to let her know
A dreams a dream
And all this livings so much harder than it seems
But girl don't let your dreams be dreams
You know this livings not so hard as it seems
Don't let your dreams dreams
Your dreams your dreams be dreams
She could hitch a ride out of town
And so far away from that low down good for nothing mistake making fool
With excuses like baby that was a long time ago
But that's just a euphemism if you want the truth he was out of control
But a short times just a long time then your mind just won't let it go
Well summer came along and it then was gone and so was she
Not from him because he followed her just to let her know
A dreams a dream
And all this livings so much harder than it seems
But girl don't let your dreams be dreams
You know this livings not so hard as it seems
Don't let your dreams dreams
Your dreams your dreams be dreams

Beautiful song. My opinion, especially after considering the previous comments is that, for whatever reason, the particular "why she's decided to leave" is not cause he keeps wronging her and evidently repenting as the writer later suggests he wasn't exactly a horribleperson, but that she couldn't let go of one particular event that happened when he was "out of control" -she hangs it on the euphemism of all his past mistakes and excuses. So the single thing she was dealing with for a short time, felt like a long time.
However, she leaves, but the one person she still couldn't escape from was him: he either followed after her saying these (in the summer she left) or this statement that she had once heard him make came to her (after summer).
It's good advice, but as to whether she's encouraged or regretful by it is unclear. -depends on why she recalled what he had said, but the latter seems a better twist to me *sha (*though)
he's saying trust yourself | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/11/12
I'm living this song right now. It's about a man who abuses a woman, and when she realizes he has been using excuses to disrespect her, she walks away. But he pursues her and tries to continue to control her and deny her needs and perceptions through lies and manipulation by telling her that dreams are dreams. "Dreams"= what she thought the relationship was, and what she wants to experience in her life- love and care and respect. It's hard to walk away from any human being you care about, no matter how they treat you, so the writer is encouraging her and telling her that if she goes back to him and believes him, his statement that "dreams are dreams" will become true. By encouraging her the writer is saying that these dreams DO exist :) I love Jack Johnson.

I think this song is about... a guy who wronged a girl, NOT a girl who was wronged by a guy (*hoping that makes sense*). The guy is looking to redeem himself by giving up everything to be her "Second-in-line" and he tells her to keep pursuing her dreams because he knows what it's like to let them slip through your fingers.
Don't give up? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/19/10
Wonderful song... but I'm torn on the meaning. I think it has a lot to do with being caught in a rut. I think he's saying don't give up your dreams also. Like, don't let it just be a dream, make it a reality, and don't let someone else stop you with excuses and lies and promises. Not sure... either way, I love this song and the music.

i think the songs about a girl thats so in love with this guy that no matter what he does to hurt her she can't snap out of it. she to get as far away from him as she can but she still can't get him out of her mind

This song is absolutely gorgeous. Jack Johnson not only has a way with words, but he also has a way with music. I will always love his music. It's simply beautiful. This song just proves that so much can be said in so little words:) Lovely song:)

Very short song but full of depth. It's saying she is just waiting out a relationship that should have ended. The guy hurt her in the past and she can't get over that fact so she wants to get away from him. He controls her because hes always around and she can't get away from him because he is leading her on false hopes.

I think the song is really good, but im not sure of the meaning. Is he saying that you have to put your dreams into motion no matter what?

Awesome, soulful spirit song. I wish it was a little bit longer, but sweet and to the point. Something to live by.
