He died of a heroin overdose in 1988. Since then a few other songs have been written in his memory. What's great about this song is not only the smooth, trance-like rhythm, but also that the lyrics can take on so many meanings to so many people. For me, I played this song on repeat the entire day before I entered rehab for a long, terrible addiction. The first thing i did when i got out of rehab was rush home so I could play this song. Now that my life has changed, I dedicate this song to my now husband. Its just one of those magical songs that is part of the soundtrack of life.
