Review about Don't Lose Touch Just a thought | Reviewer: Cody D. | 8/3/09 I have kind of played out a scenario in which this song is about a date gone awry. Especially the first few verses; it really describes a bad date, which ends with the two people saying, "don't lose touch." Then, the lyrics go on to explain how the girl in the date, who is contrived and pretentious, texts SOS as if the guy is whats wrong with the date. Then basically, Tom goes on to criticize the inflated personality that so many people are born with. The next chorus, he says, "I'm losing touch", suggesting he doesn't recoginize himself as a part of the depersonalized culture that so many are embracing through entertainment and commercialized music. The punch line is, "and it's obvious", which is really quite funny; in the midst of the satirical song, Tom finally focuses on himself, pointing out that he has no connection once soever with the modern ways, and he's sticking out like a sore thumb. People like to inflate themselves to appear bigger and better withough making contributions to society. "Talk is cheap, and it doesnt mean much" People convince themselves that they are great, to one day realize they have done nothing really GREAT and they are normal regular people then they breakdown and send out the SOS. I had some reflections about it and i found it was some kind of an anwser to the critics they have been through when they turn a little bit the band style. They say "Is there something wrong with these songs?" and also that they're "losing touch". They comented the critics on the first verse and the critic is that they're "Lost in modern art", he makes an irony with that saying it's a cliche argument.
