Don't Damn Me Lyrics - Guns N' Roses
Review The Song (6)
Don't damn me
When I speak a piece of my mind
'Cause silence isn't golden
When I'm holding it inside
'Cause I've been where I have been
An I've seen what I have seen
I put the pen to the paper
'Cause it's all a part of me
Be it a song or casual conversation
To hold my tongue speaks
Of quiet reservations
Your words once heard
They can place you in a faction
My words may disturb
But at least there's a reaction
Sometimes I wanna kill
Sometimes I wanna die
Sometimes I wanna destroy
Sometimes I wanna cry
Sometimes I could get even
Sometimes I could give up
Sometimes I could give
Sometimes I never give a fuck
It's only for a while
I hope you understand
I never wanted this to happen
Didn't want to be a man
So I hid inside my world
I took what I could find
I cried when I was lonely
I fell down when I was blind
But don't damn me
When I speak a piece of my mind
'Cause silence isn't golden
When I'm holding it inside
'Cause I've been where I have been
An I've seen what I have seen
I put the pen to the paper
'Cause it's all a part of me
How can I ever satisfy you
An how can I ever make you see
That deep inside we're all somebody
An it don't matter who you wanna be
But now I gotta smile
I hope you comprehend
For this man can say it happened
'Cause this child has been
condemned
So I stepped into your world
I kicked you in the mind
An I'm the only witness
To the nature of my crime
But look at what we've done
To the innocent and young
Whoa listen to who's talking
'Cause we're not the only ones
The trash collected by the eyes
And dumped into the brain
Said it tears into our
conscious thoughts
You tell me who's to blame
I know you don't wanna hear me cryin'
An I know you don't wanna hear me deny
That your satisfaction lies in your ILLUSIONS
But your delusions are yours and not mine
We take for granted we know the whole story
We judge a book by its cover
And read what we want
Between selected lines
Don't hail me
An don't idolize the ink
Or I've failed in my intentions
Can you find the missing link
Your only validation is living your own life
Vicarious existence is a fucking waste of time
So I send this song to the offended
I said what I meant and I've never pretended
As so many others do intending just to please
If I damned your point of view
Could you turn the other cheek
But don't damn me
When I speak a piece of my mind
'Cause silence isn't golden
When I'm holding it inside
'Cause I've been where I have been
An I've seen what I have seen
I put the pen to the paper
'Cause it's all a part of me
Don't damn me
I said don't damn me
I said don't hail me
Don't damn me

it's pretty self explanatory but hope this helps... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/28/10
known as an asshole for lashing out on people and for homophobic and racist lyrics as well as being highly misunderstood: "we judge a book by its cover and read what we want between selected lines". basically "theres more to me than what you think, but you can think what you want about me cuz i could give a fk". im lovin this line: "your words once heard they can place you in a faction. my words may disturb, but at least there's a reaction!" saying "hey, i'm not gonna sugarcoat anything about myself and that's what i do and that's what makes me... me":
So I send this song to the offended
I said what I meant and I've never pretended
As so many others do intending just to please
Axl might have some Autistic/Aspergers traits... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/10/10
I relate this to Axl's 'autistic' traits. This might explain why he's semi-apologising, but also saying "I can only be how I am, don't damn me for it, at least it's honest". This is something a lot of 'autistic' people have to explain to 'normal' people - like "it's nothing personal, it might not be the most pleasant, but look at the positive, at least it's honest and you know where you stand."
Or you could be more simplistic and call him an unapologetic asshole, but why would someone try to explain that, if that's what they indeed were?
Dont damn the words of this song peep! | Reviewer: Mickey | 11/27/09
i think this is due to Axl's american way of living...
Axl was physically abused in his childhood and raised in bad situations, so that leads to him,,but we are we and we must not idolize his style of living instead cherish the music he gave us,...
i am a fan of guns as hell...
i respect axl and slash for their love for music..
kickass | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/22/09
I love this song. I don't think it's an apology, I think it's saying fuck you get over yourself, I'll do what I want and you're better off hearing what I have to say than having me explode. Axl's famous for his violent temper, in fact he lost a wife and a serious girlfriend over it. The is more of an explanation, and talking an outlet, which is the spirit of rock anyway: a relatively safe outlet for talent and violent emotions.
Not about him apologizing | Reviewer: Perspective | 12/24/08
The song is about Axl, I think that much is true..
I think it is his take on how other people see his actions, but at the same time a warning not to "idolize the ink" and make him "god" so to speak, maybe because also alot of their songs encourages people (who cant think for themselves) to act as they do (which is general misconception in music, but not surprising with the amount of ignorants walking around), Like saying "One in a million" was racist.. its just the perspective and at the same time he directs the lyrics to himself in the 3'rd verse, which no one seems to have heard ?! - But he speaks and see's the truth... AND THAT MY FRIEND.. IS WHY I LOVE AXL ROSE AND GUNS N' ROSES... !
