Dollars And Cents Lyrics - Radiohead

Review The Song (7)

There are things to talk about
Be constructive

There are weapons, we can use
Be constructive
With your blues

Even when they tore the wall down
Even when they tore the wall down

Why don't you quiet down?
Why won't you quiet down?
Why don't you quiet down?
Why won't you quiet down?
You won't even touch us now you know that we're framed

You don't like living in a business world
You don't have goals and you never stay
There are no more goals in our liberal world
Living in times when I could stand it

It's all through the neighbor's grill
I'll roll on and maybe I can see out of here
It's all over the globe this day
It's all over the globe so let me out of here
It's all over the world

Quiet down?
Why won't you quiet down?
Why don't you quiet down?
Why won't you quiet down?

We are the dollar and cents

Superpowers of the world? | Reviewer: Tam | 7/17/09

I thought he was talking of dollars, cents, pounds n pence mark n yen as the global superpowers, being an oppressive force on us the working class and as to quiet down, this as a threat like were the daddys in this world so keep your mouths shut? Im not convinced he`s talkin about the band members! I guess we all have our own take and meaning to the words!

Beautiful song | Reviewer: Laura | 6/18/09

Most musicians will tell you the lyrics are not very important. But, Radiohead is good at writing lyrics that provoke thought. Musically, they blow me away. This song is mellow but somehow it motivates. I love all of their work. They remind me of Pink Floyd and a little bit of Queen.

Dollars and Cents | Reviewer: John R | 1/29/08

In this song, Thom Yorke symbolizes people for money. The people exactly are the people in his band. What he's mentioning to you at the end of this song is that him and his band are the dollars and cents, pounds and pence, which is really just money and of course everyone needs that in order to survive, and they will crack your little soul. The soul he's referring to in the song is the soul of big-business and world politics - the people who wear suits - the authoritative, omnipotent voice is commanding him to behave but he insists on living in his fantasy dream world. Later on he mentions he condescends towards big-business and world politics and mentions a baby is crying. The baby that is crying is the whole world. It is crying because of big-business and politics aren't letting him and his people live the way they want to live. Radiohead - the band - is the one that stands outside this evil machine, this all thought encompassing and controlling machine because they are still allowed to play in their dream world. The soul they are cracking is the soul of big-business and world politics - the soul of the people who wear suits everyday. He's saying two things simultaneously at the end of the song. One that he is the sort of thing that stands outside the machine, the heckler, the mocker, the rebel who will not conform to their standards and two he's going to sabotage their system and bring it down, one crack at a time. A brilliant song, a great message, this is why I love Radiohead.

We're gonna crack your little souls | Reviewer: Mary | 9/19/07

Thom Yorke is the red flag, the siren, the man who warns us of the future. Should we not heed his magnificient words, astronauts will one day be able to smell the scent of the landfills from space, and the totalitarians will rise again, and we will all drown in the melted ice of the arctic.
