G
I met my love by the gas works wall
Dreamed a dream by the old canal
I Kissed my girl by the factory wall
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
Clouds are drifting across the moon
Cats are prowling on their beat
Spring's a girl from the streets at night
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
( Solo vers ) ( C )
G
I Heard a siren from the docks
Saw a train set the night on fire
I Smelled the spring on the smoky wind
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
I'm gonna make me a big sharp axe
Shining steel tempered in the fire
I'll chop you down like an old dead tree
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
I met my love by the gas works wall
Dreamed a dream by the old canal
I kissed my girl by the factory wall
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
Dirty old town

Review about Dirty Old Town Getting it right | Reviewer: robin jones | 6/27/09
The Pogues get it right. There's the brutal environment and the stink of the Gas Works and your man with his flat, edgy voice singing of the only escape he's got left.. Nothing comes close. Rod Stewert is pampered perfumed powder by comparison, and I'd smack Kelly in the god and steal his pint. Shawn McGowan just gets it. There's nothing else. Nothing but silence.

' Dirty Old Town ' was written by Ewan MacColl, the late Kirsty MacColl's father, in 1949. It is about the industrial city of Salford where he grew up. Salford in a north west of England city next to Manchester!
Mr. Moon's Version | Reviewer: John Sieger | 3/6/08
First trip to England last month. Met and jammed with Mr. Moon in Sheerness. His version was outrageous and funny! He changed one lyric... "I kissed my girl where the sun don't shine" One of the greatest songs ever written.
Classic!

The best album for this is "Run Sodomy and the Lash" - Fantasic Album - Sally Maclennane is the best track though - great drinking song.

The Mountain Goats also do a great a version of this song, you all should check it out!
Dirty Old Town was written by Ewan MacColl in 1956. The song refers to Salford in Manchester. Made more famous really, I think by The Pogues whose version is stellar. A great song.
