You and I travel to the beat of a different drum
Oh can't you tell by the way I run
Every time you make eyes at me
Wo-oh

You cry and moan and say it will work out
But honey child I've got my doubts
You can't see the forest for the trees

Oh don't get me wrong
It's not that I knock it
It's just that I am not in the market
For a boy who wants to love only me

Yes, and I ain't saying you ain't pretty
All I'm saying is I'm not ready
For any person place or thing
To try and pull the reins in on me

So good-bye I'll be leaving
I see no sense in this crying and grieving
We'll both live a lot longer
If you live without me

Oh don't get me wrong
It's not that I knock it
It's just that I am not in the market
For a boy who wants to love only me

Yes, and I ain't saying you ain't pretty
All I'm saying is I'm not ready
For any person place or thing
To try and pull the reins in on me

So good-bye I'll be leaving
I see no sense in this crying and grieving
We'll both live a lot longer
If you live without me

Omg, I can't believe I just read all about this song, absolutely unreal to think Mike Nesmith wrote this. I had no idea what a grreat hillbilly voice he had, or that he could write. Blow my mind! This songs been popular since the late 60's, why did I never know it was Mike. I am madly in love, haha. Btw, a song I do know he does is "!What m I doing hanging round?" Check.it out!

I have always liked this song. I remember back in '67 or so, the guy who wrote it, Monkee Mike Nesmith, even singing a few bars of it during an episode of "The Monkees". I like it just as much now, as I did back in the day. My own life experiences make me appreciate it even more now.

STAND UP AND SAY YOUR SOUL IS YOUR OWN | Reviewer: Greg Sinner | 12/3/07

DIFFERENT DRUM BY LINDA RONSTADT IN THE LATEST BEN AFFLECK FLICK WILL TOUCH YOU I HOPE IN WAYS IT HAS TOUCHED MY LIFE. SOMETIMES THE CHURCH'S GRINDING ON THE GREAT WHORE IS QUESTIONABLE TO SAY THE LEAST. ANNE GAYLOR PUT IT "WOE TO WOMAN-THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO." WOMEN'S LIVES GO BEYOND THE REALM OF WOMEN'S ISSUES AND INTO SOMETHING LIKE BIGGER THOMAS ONLY THE CATCH IS FOR WOMEN OF ALL KINDS IT IS RELENTLESS. IT IS OF NO WONDER TO ME THERE ARE THINGS LIKE THE ELLEN JAMES SOCIETY WHEN I HEAR THIS SONG AND THINK OF HOW ONCE OUR SOCIETY COULD ACHIEVE HONOR FOR WOMEN AND THEIR RIGHTS TO THEIR BODIES AND THEIR OWN LIVES AND THE RIGHT TO HAVE THEIR OWN INCRIMINATING BEHAVIOUR BE IT AS MOTHER, SISTER, OR DAUGHTER. I MEAN HAVEN'T WE HAD ENOUGH WAR YET AND LETTING OUR COUNTRY HAVE JUST A GUILTY CONSCIENCE ABOUT THE VIETNAM WAR. CAN WE STOP ASKING WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO THE POOR AND FOCUS ON WOMEN AND CHILDREN AND GAYS AND LESBIANS? WHAT HAPPENS TO THEM? IS IT JUST A MORNING AFTER PILL THAT THEIR PRESENCE IS? SHOULDN'T IT TAKE A WHOLE VILLAGE?
