This song cuts deep into me. I am all of the people he sings about and sometimes I can't help that I intentionally am the devil. I wish I could be a better person for my husband but I am to complicated and dark. Beautifully sad song. It is my favorite song.

A girl who once had a lover, whom she had to give unwillingly for a secret reason that is no less than a grave problem, lives day to day trying to fill the void he left by carrying out the same activities they used to share together with every new man she meets, knowing that she can never have him back. However, nothing can fill that void and she knows it, yet still she keeps on doing it until the new man realises and starts to question her actions and motives to which she respond by saying she is not evil and that he can't and won't understand.

One of the new men, a true man, gets touched by their relationship more than the other common males. He can't sleep, can't function, and starts to question the social standards around him, thinking that it might be the reason why she is gone. In his course of action, he makes mistakes that translates to him being evil, whereas he is merely trying to understand and fight for his - not their - love.

She, lost in her lost love, doesn't care about the little details that make all the difference for him. He tolerates her being distant & cold, hoping that that would change soon, but when she tries to fix it either by doing something or taking about it, his frustration shows her how he insecure he truly feels in the relationship in fear of losing her and realises how mean she is perceived. Thus, defending herself in her own mind, not to him, saying she is not the devil.

To which he responds, and I am not the devil too, for trying to win your heart.

Song about misunderstanding between two independent strong-willed human beings who met in the wrong place and at the wrong time of their lives.

I really can relate with the lyrics in the song. My fiance has VERY low self-esteem and he's always so afraid that I'm going to leave him because of how he looks, he makes it seem like I'm a horrible person that only cares about his money and his looks (aka, like I'm the Devil) and I always tell him, "I'm not like that, I'm not evil even though you think everyon's like that."

Lets look at it realisticlly. Remember that point in life when you looked into the mirror and realized that the mask you've always worn was never really there but was instead what you chose to see instead of reality and in such you realize that perception is an altered reality creted to protect our self created safety.

I love all the Staind songs and this one is awesome..charged of feelings..just great! hope they keep doing good music

this song is rly powerful. it sorta describes the feelin ppl get wen ppl avoid or leave them. its rly easy 2 relate this song, and i always listin 2 this song wen im in a bad mood. staind is the best, and i hope they continue 2 come out with amazing music

I love Aarons' way of trying to reinvent himself on the whole CD. A much better CD than the last. Devil is one of my favorites but the whole CD is great.
