Devendra Banhart Lyrics

“…Banhart was born in Texas in 1981, and named by an Indian

two years later, he moved with his mom to Caracas ,
Venezuela , where he was raised amidst the shanties and
sweatshops. Though his family had enough money to stay

Pagan? | Reviewer: SilverRain
------ About the song Insect Eyes performed by Devendra Banhart

Its dark and chilling the first time you hear it, but... after that I kind of began thinking it sounded like a pagan song, just with some chilling guitar music. Think about it. :)

------ About the song Anchor performed by Devendra Banhart

For such a short song, with so few lyrics this song really speaks to me. Maybe it's the soft, shaky vociferaction by Devendra, or maybe it's the the melancholy tune of the piano. I feel as though he's singing about his past, or something he hadn't thought of in awhile, like he's reminiscing. Not a current emotion he's feeling. It reminds me of a an old lover singing to his old lover. Beautiful song.

------ About the song Luna De Margarita performed by Devendra Banhart

Please make clear that she just sings this. This beautiful song was written by Simon Diaz, the most awarded venezuelan artist, best known as "Tio Simon" (Uncle Simon) in his country for being a driving force of venezuelan folklor and traditional music. Indeed, this type of music is called "tonada" and is what the men of the venezuelan plains sing to he cow while milking it.
