Desperado Lyrics
Performed by EaglesReview The Song (30)
Desperado, why don't you come to your senses
You've been out ridin' fences
for so long now
Ohh you're a hard one
I know that you've got your reasons
These things that are pleasin' you
Can hurt you somehow
Don't you draw the queen of diamonds boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet
Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones
That you can't get
Desperado,
Ohhhh you ain't getting no younger
Your pain and your hunger,
They're driving you home
And freedom, ohh freedom.
Well that's just some people talking
Your prison is walking through this world all alone
Don't your feet get cold in the winter time?
The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine.
It's hard to tell the night time from the day
And you're losing all your highs and lows
ain't it funny how the feeling goes
away...
Desperado,
Why don't you come to your senses?
come down from your fences, open the gate
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you
(let sombody love you)
You better let somebody love you...ohhh..
before it's too..oooo.. late

Superb song, brilliant lyrics, best of eagles | Reviewer: Welsh Tania | 12/30/11
Amazing song! My take on lyrics is simply this. Someone who has had their heart broken and is afraid to take another chance of having it broken again. Lyricist is saying 'don't sit on the fence fir the rest of your life - even if u get hurt again, get out there and try it again'. Love the lyrics, love the tune abd love the Eagles. Can't believe some peers of mine hv never heard of the song and (unbelievably) some have never even heard of the Eagles. Get a life!
A song that says it all | Reviewer: Emily | 12/1/11
Personally, I think the song tackles everything from relationship problems, isolation, fear, growing old, responsibilities, self esteem, depression, wanting what u can't have, and society in general. The bottom line is that loneliness is the message throughout the entire song. It says a lot in so little time that you can't help but play it more than once everytime u listen to it. " don't your feet get cold in the winter time, the sky won't snow and the sun won't shine. It's hard to tell the nighttime from the day". Wow.. Incredible song writing, one of the best of it's time. Rock On Eagles. Don Henley voice just puts this song exactly where it should be. Close to your heart.

This song is about a man who has left his wife but still hangs onto her because she allows it. He dates other women but still rides the fence about should he keep stringing the wife along (wife still has hope that he will come back) or should he commit to the one that has his body, mind, and soul. Either way, he needs to get off the fence and open the gate. Fear of chane is driving this man home to a life where he is emotionally and sexually unfullfilled. He will open the gate soon and come to his senses.

I like this song when I feel lonely. But then it gets me to thinking about being married, which is worse!(I think Hardluvinman is missing what he can't do now and trying to rationalize having to drive around a mini-van . . . wish I had it all figured out:-)
Probably the best song ever written | Reviewer: Tinkerpuss | 3/25/10
This is a very special song.
Yes it describes me to a tee, but it also gives me a high when I think of the one girl who I sang it with. To see the Eagles perform this as their last song at the O2 in London last year was spine tingling stuff and oh so good. So thank you Don Henley for giving us this stunning song, thank you Nona for such good times. Thank you Lord for such a good life. Tinkerpuss xxxx
New name for my (ex)man | Reviewer: Kay | 2/23/10
I had loved this song for as long as I can remember. It was probably my favorite Eagles song. Not sure anymore because I keep hearing it wherever I go and it now causes me pain. Desperado is the new name I call the middle-aged man who recently broke up with me, he said he doesn't know why. He has chosen solitary life over shared life. I think after all the broken relationships he has had that solitude is more comfortable to him. This song is him, he is refusing to be loved because he has been maimed several times in his past relationships. My relationship counselor said he realized I could be the one for him so he had no choice but to dump me to protect himself from potential further hurt. I wasn't going to hurt him, ever. I've had it done to me and I could never do it to someone else. Anonymous' "Heart Touching Song" and Hardluvinman's "Mid-Life Crisis" reviews are dead on. There is NOTHING more priceless than love, it is the reason we were put on this earth. The thought of him going through his entire life without feeling loved... My Desperado will wake up someday, maybe it won't be until he's 80 and he realizes he's alone, and then he'll say "Kay was right." and it'll be too late. You better let somebody love you before it's too late.
Probably the best evangelical song ever written... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/12/10
Desperado,
Why don't you come to your senses?
come down from your fences, open the gate.
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you.
You better let My Jesus love you.
(let My Jesus love you)
You better let My Jesus love you...ohhh..hooo
before it's too..oooo.. late.
My life is at a turning point. | Reviewer: SR | 11/7/09
I am a loney, broken person right now. I am getting ready to do something morally wrong and I very well may divorce my husband. I am so mad all the time for no reason. I just googled this word deperato because it is one of my favorite songs. I just wanted to say that this song describes me to a 't.' It always has. I have had muliple instances in my life where it has almost haunted me during trying times...I heard it after I almost hit a deer with my car. I heard it on my wedding day, when I am sad, etc. Always brightens up my day knowing that someone is watching over me. Help me now.
Mid-life Crisis | Reviewer: Hardluvinman | 7/21/09
Hasn't anyone figured out yet what this song is really about? Male Menopause!! The clue is right there smack dab in the middle of the song: "You're losin' all your highs and lows, ain't it funny how the feeling goes away..." What this song is really saying is that every man, no matter how tough and independent, eventually loses his innate abilities to feel true joy and wonderment as he once had been able to as a child and that, if he's not careful, he'll end up settling for someone and/or something less than satisfying to his soul but perhaps financially secure for his body. Without that true love of one's life by one's side, life for most men becomes bleak and empty, without connections, purpose or fulfillment and all those adolescent fantasies about becoming the strong, silent Marlboro Man type will have become the mundane reality of burnout and disillusionment sitting on a park bench getting old. In other words, running around playing cowboy until you're 70 is ridiculous in the extreme and totally unrealistic as a life goal, no matter how self-reliant you may happen to be. Who cares if there's no one around to appreciate it? What this song is really telling men is to grow the f**k up before it's too late! There'll always be queens of diamonds around to satisfy our raging adolescent hormones but very few queens of hearts to satisfy the longings of our souls, which is where it really counts. After all, there's nothing more priceless than the love of a good woman. Remember that boys, and happy hunting!!

Turning Point | Reviewer: Cheyenne | 6/16/09
I'm only 12 and i go through so much more crap then even adults. One main problem is my abusive father. How do you stay calm when everything around you isn't? This song helped me. It shows me that there will be an escape from all of the violence and crap. I gives me hope...
I am inspired by this song | Reviewer: Roderick | 4/10/09
Should I settle down after all these years of f**king around?
Should I marry the one I love or should I marry the one who love me?
Should I follow God and fight the bloody war, killing all those motherfuckers? (God has given me the privilege to kill)
Please continue to inspire me with signs and codes, dear God.
Desparado | Reviewer: Ham | 3/22/09
This song reminds me of myself. I have a suckish life and i am very violent and foul mouthed, telling people that "I JUST SWEAR TO FUCKING MUCH YOU ASSHOLE!" so, whenever i want to calm down after a long swearing/violence streak, i listen to this song. I am only 13, but i love the eagles. (don't ask about my problems, YOU FUCKIN' WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND ASSHOLE!"
Why I came to my senses... | Reviewer: David | 3/17/09
This song moved me when it came out. It challenged the desperado in me for almost ten years-and then a queen of hearts came into my life. I might have passed her by had it not been for this SONG. There's been a rainbow above me now for over 25 years...Eternal gratitude to the writer and his wisdom!
