Desert Rose Lyrics - Sting & Police

Review The Song (6)

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of fire
Those dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire
And in the flames
Her shadows play in the shape of a man's desire

This desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

And as she turns
This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams
This fire burns
I realize that nothing's as it seems

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of rain
I lift my gaze to empty skies above
I close my eyes
This rare perfume is the sweet intoxication of her love

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

Sweet desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

Sweet desert rose
This memory of Eden haunts us all
This desert flower
This rare perfume, is the sweet intoxication of the fall

arabic lines | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/5/09

the arabic lines performed my Cheb Mami goes like this " Hathi mudey tawaila .. wana nehawes ana wa ala ghuzulty .. wana nehawes ana wa ala ghuzulty .. wana nehawes ana wa ala ghazaly "

it translates " and this is so long a time .. while i am searching for my beloved ( he refers to her as a beautiful doe ) "

Song for evergreen! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/27/08

Does somebody know what means those words which follow vocal singing? I can not find its meaning on net, but i want to complete hall song, because it has incredible fluency on me, because I like middle-eastern culture, above all music (exactly like this or similar). Thanks!

Man, this is a great song! I've always loved Middle Eastern-y sounding songs, and this is a good one. It is somehow calming, but not in a way that will put you to sleep.

Reminders | Reviewer: sarahebrewer@yahoo.com | 12/25/07

I think that it is a lovely song. It reminds me of the time I spent in Egypt. HWne I heard the beginning I thought it would be entirely in arabic. I love it! thank you for posting these lyrics.

dhildish work | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/27/07

It is quite an insult to the song for whoever wrote the lyrics because the ending and openings are show childish efforts. And it is definitly an insult to Mami and Sting's fans.

Desert Rose - Incredible Song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/24/07

This is without a doubt one of the loveliest songs ever sung; however, it was not performed by Sting & The Police. It was performed by Sting and Cheb Mami, an Algerian raï singer, whose counter-melody and Arabic verses gave it an exotic, haunting allure. Truly superb!
