Review The Song (13)Print the Lyrics
Freedom is all I have to say in defense
Of what the world's becoming
A nation hell bent on choosing what's right
And how we all should live our lives
Fuck thier ways it is time to break free
Fuck their hate acceptance is what we need
Equality for every race, sex, sexuality
And every choice to live our lives
And to you bigot cretin ignoramus
Mind your own goddamn fucking business
Holding onto what makes us whole
Never letting their poison take control
Freezing the air (that stands between all of us)
Closing the eyes (bear witness to me)
feeling the fear (that stands between all of us)
Closing the eyes (bear witness to me)
I'll be right here
Falling away
Fighting on principle
I'll die 1000 times
Before I'll ever be them
Burn the scriptures
Bury the governing
Free yourself
Break the structures
Declare Freedom

Review about Declaration

Sure its a choice.. | Reviewer: Xeroxed | 11/1/09

Sure being gay is a choice. but people ARE ALLOWED TO MAKE THESE CHOICES
thats what this song is about.. "they" want us to feel that its wrong and that these people are less than human
but fuck that they have every right to do whatever they desire with their lives..
And some might argue that sexual attraction is NOT a chioce..
can you CHOOSE to find an ugly chick attractive? maybe gays dont find the opposite sex attractive? In which case its not a choice.

And as far as turning around and calling names out of hatred after saying fuck their hatred--
These people that feel that different sexualities and races are not deserving of rigths or life or whatever.. they are DESERVIGN of hatred and are trying to FORCE their beleifs upon everyone because they have tiny closed minds.
you are all a bunch of chach's.

I totally agree with Opher ! | Reviewer: Boristoglobe | 9/26/09

"Furthermore, "Fuck their hate" but not that of the screamer's, who later spits hate-filled, unimaginative insults like "Bigot," "cretin," and "ignoramus?"", that's fuckin' right !

I love Trivium so much, it's one of my 3 favorite bands, but fuck, these lyrics are shit !!!

sigh | Reviewer: Luke | 6/7/09

I wish bands wouldnt do this too me, im coo with anti sexism, and anti racism, but im fucken sick and tired of people how are gay for gay people. It is such a different issue than racism and sexism. it isntyour choice to be a certian race or gender. but gays choose there lifestyle. regardless, trivium is my favorite band by a long shot, and 99.9% from Ascendancy and Shogun are badass, but i wish they werent so liberal...

fuck off opher | Reviewer: holy shit | 3/4/09

fuck, opher is a dumb shit. i love trivium, i love their lyrics they are deep and meaningful, and can be taken in whatever way the listener wants. opher can go get fucked that shit ain't got even a candle to hold against the army of trivium fans.

on ya everyone for standing up to that bigot, cretin, ignoramus...

... | Reviewer: Draconian | 1/18/09

Opher is obviously just an ignorant fool and nothing anyone can say will alter his unshakable and blind view on the song. I'd be willing to bet it's not just this song he hates on while spewing out false and hideously opinionated logic that has little to no factual basis. I'm not going to bother and rant any further on this idiot, as no doubt it'll do no good, and instead put in my view of the song. Final word on Opher: No one cares what you think. People post about the song to appreciate its value, not to be critical jerks.

It's a great song. Of course it is, Trivium wrote it. I deeply enjoy the heavy riffs and clever and soul stirring lead guitar higher notes amidst it all. I don't like this song in particular as opposed to say Rain, but that doesn't make it anything less than amazing. Just, when you hear music as amazing as this, it becomes difficult to enjoy anything else.

Opher you goon! | Reviewer: Nik | 9/15/08

Perhaps you haven't thought carefully enough - Why would Matt Heafy write an anti-hate song with hate-fill lyrics? He's using irony as a tool to emphasise his opinion but to also compliment the mood of the music. Clearly this song wouldn't sound right if he screamed about how humanity needs to hold hands and share the love.

Furthermore, it isn't necessarily hypocritical for him to say what we do and don't need. How can someone say what we don't need without then saying what we DO need in society? He's clearly expressing an opinion which is aimed to achieve equality.

Think about it.

This song kicks ass | Reviewer: Gus | 3/11/08

Opher obviously has hardcore downs syndrome. He over annualizes the lyrics looking for the loopholes so he can make his half assed attempt to contradict this song. If a song is telling you to do something you obviously listening to it too damn hard. Now if you don't mind I would like to point out the contradictions in your post...

Ask yourself... Does it make more sense for "A nation hell bent on choosing what's right
And how we all should live our lives" to rule or does "acceptance is what we need" make more sense to you? That’s him saying its better to make nice than be treated as a slave. They are two completely different ideals. I really don't see how you could disagree with that unless you just came here to spew your idiotic shit all over this great song.

"Furthermore, "Fuck their hate" but not that of the screamer's, who later spits hate-filled, unimaginative insults like "Bigot," "cretin," and "ignoramus?""

Does the singer in this song come off to you as the guy oppressing anybody to you? I am pretty sure screaming hate-filled insults goes along with this "Freedom is all I have to say in defense" not the way you tore it out of context. Maybe that’s why he says "Fuck THEIR hate".

Anyways now that we have cunts like that out of the way this song melts my face. The double bass, the hardcore but still melodic thrash guitar, and Cory and Mat's screaming/singing made me bleed from my ears. Especially "Burn the scriptures / bury the governing / Free yourself / Break the structures / Declare Freedom" part, it blew my mind how they could maintain screams like that. Too bad that’s probably the stuff that killed Mat's vocals.

fuck you opher.. | Reviewer: chaz | 11/9/07

your the sort of cunt that this song sings about
this is about acceptance into a corrupt nation
fighting for freedom of racism, sexism and homophobia and you seem to love the nation that hates all that is differant and "impure" from the white hetrosexual male that leads our countries into hate so fuck off! this is an amazing song its speaks for so many people even if it doesnt make sence.
powerful song.

It's a good thing the "singer's" educ... I mean, *enunciation* is so terrible | Reviewer: Opher | 9/19/07

...Otherwise, only children would listen to it. Reading the lyrics to this tirade, one gets the impression that its "author" is likely an eleven-year-old drunk with the power of self-righteous, holier-than-thou fury. If you don't throw your brain over your shoulder before reading this nonsense, you realize it's nothing more than hypocritical bullshit.

For example, it derides "A nation hell bent on choosing what's right / And how we all should live our lives," stating "Freedom is all I have to say in defense / Of what the world's becoming," whatever that means. Yet almost in the same scream, it states "Fuck their hate acceptance is what we need"

So. It's not okay for "a nation" to "choose what's right / And how we all should live our lives..."

...but it's okay for somebody screaming at us to do so, telling us "acceptance is what we need?"

Furthermore, "Fuck their hate" but not that of the screamer's, who later spits hate-filled, unimaginative insults like "Bigot," "cretin," and "ignoramus?"

Idiotic, hypocritical nonsense.
