Dead Star Lyrics - Muse

Review The Song (18)

Shame on you
For thinking you're an exception
We're all to blame
Crashing down to Earth
Wasting and burning out, you're
Fading like a dead star, woah
Harm is coming your way
Yeah, it's coming your way

You used to be everything to me
And now you're tired of fighting
Tired of fighting
Fighting yourself

Shame on you
For thinking
You're all alone
If you want I'll make you wish you were
Failing to impress
Why can't you sleep with
Someone who'll protect you, yeah
Harm is coming your way
Yeah it's coming your way

You used to be everything to me
And now you're tired of fighting
Tired of fighting
Fighting yourself

This song testifies that Muse are not a pope rock band and can go heavy metal. The distortion in the melody adds to the horific atmosphere it creates and my my my my!!! the voice with the breath overs.. it just expresses your in most pain in full and realises it. Frankly no one will ever replicate muse EVER!! thats why they deserve to be at the top.

Studio Version | Reviewer: Allison | 8/16/11

I think while recording the studio version, Matthew was slurping up a slushy as he sang, and even ended up choking on it a few times. Just saying, that's what probably happened.

Or maybe he had a cold and was pretty snotty...

Eh, oh well. Great song, even with the slurpies!

Maybe politics... | Reviewer: LaResistance | 3/13/11

I'm not exactly sure what this song is about. But, I think it is probably something having to do with politics and government. That's a lot of Muse's theme, and I agree with it. I have learned so much about PBB, MK Ultra, George Orwell, stuff like that, because I found out about it through them. Muse is a hero.

"Dead Star" was written alongside "In Your World" shortly after the September 11th attacks in America.

Matt:

"I sort of got into that kind of thing, looking into space and all that - bit embarrassing, really. I'm a bit of a Star Trek fan in secret, but don't tell anyone (laughs). The song is about, let me think, it kind of how everyone reacted to the 11 September thing. We were in Boston at the time, we got stuck there, and that's when we recorded those songs. So, in some ways, the lyrics are a little bit about the hysteria around that time and how people were really quick to point fingers at everyone else when they should have pointed fingers at themselves."

Think that settles things people!!

Hi. | Reviewer: Camilleeeeeee | 12/4/09

Sorry to disappoint, Eoin, but this song was first released in 2002 and Bush came into power in 2001, so time line wise it could be a valid argument.

Otherwise, I don't think that it's about George Bush. This seems far too personal for Bellamy to be singing about a president, especially in the line "you used to mean everything to me." I think he's talking about something personal closer to his heart than politics (that, patriotism aside, is more a matter of the mind). Just because it contains words like 'fighting' does not necessarily make it a political song, and if it is it's certainly sending out mixed messages as Bellamy says 'we're all to blame' - so it would not be particularly ANTI Bush if it is a song about him.

I do agree that Muse have a fair few political songs, but I just don't think that this song fits at all in that category. The lyrics are just too ambiguous to be pigeon-holed like that.

Just get your facts right before you make assumptions people. Though I suppose you can look down at me for taking the time to even argue this silly thing :) - I guess I love lyrics too much.

To put the matter firmly to rest.. this song CANT be about bush.. its a B side.. it was written BEFORE anyone knew who the hell bush was.. im not gna tell you wat it is about because honestly, i dont know, only matt does.. but i can firmly tell you that it is not about bush, its before he made a mess of things in general

Awesome Song | Reviewer: Jonnn! (: | 8/20/09

Such an awesome song. I am however not surprised to hear that this is a political song. The lyrics suggest that if you think hard enough, and as some reviewers have already said, Muse come off as quite the political band. For example such songs as Take A Bow, Map Of The Problematique and lots more.

Politics | Reviewer: Keely | 8/10/09

Unfortanately my friends, this is about George Bush, and mp's and just the American and English government in general, Muse are a very political band, and if you should know anything about them it should be that, Uprising, United States of Eurasia, Dead Star, Take A Bow and many many more songs/. However you interpret the song whichever way you want to look at it Matt Bellamy, like many other artists is voicing his opinions. Which he does well, and you lot are voicing your opinions... So why can't he? Just because some people disagree doesn't mean he can't say(or sing anyway) what he thinks. Sorry Sunshine :)

awesomness.. and what?.. | Reviewer: alex | 6/20/09

this song so amazing, which just goes to prove that muse is SOO amazing :) but im sorry im like the 40th person to say this but.. WHAT?!?!?!genevieve, im sorry but, thats tooootally off, i mean, you used to mean everything to me?! umm.. if im correct, democrats never liked president bush, and.. um.. not to be weird.. but why cant you sleep with someone who will protect you? ok.. um.. i dont think matt is suggesting someone for bush to sleep with.. no offense, your entitled to your opinion.. and watch the language ok pumpkin ;)

His voice. | Reviewer: Leah | 4/22/09

God matts voice in this is incredible. It's always incredible but in this song it really stuck out I just loved it. And Genevieve what the hell are you talking about? Seriously. I know people are entitled to their opinions but darling, thats just ridiculous. Yeah we all know Bush screwed up, but like Katiewindow said, hes not a bad man. Please keep opininons like THAT to yourself.

Muse=epic

Really? | Reviewer: Katiewindow | 3/14/09

Dear Genevieve,

To avoid beating around the bush....
You are an idiot.

How could this song possibly be about George Bush?
Yes, everyone is free to interpret a song any way they so choose, but that is the worst interpretation I've ever heard.
I assume, my dear, that you are democrat? You believe everything you hear from your parents when they degrade him?
Just because he did what he thought was right for the country (numerous times) doesn't make him a bad man.
If you think things'll get better, you might as well move to Canada... Or Australia.

On a totally different note, this is a lovely song. I can't tell you how many times I've listened to it on repeat, yet still haven't gotten sick of it.
Muse is brilliant.
