Days of the Phoenix Lyrics - A.F.I. (AFI)

Review The Song (26)

I remember when I was told a story of
crushed velvet, candle wax, and dried up flowers.
The figure on the bed,
all dressed up in roses, calling...
beckoning to sleep...offering a dream.

The words were as mystical as purring animals
The circle of rage...the ghosts on the stage appeared.
The time was so tangible I'll never let it go.
Ghost stories handed down, reached secret tunnels below.

No one could see me.

I fell into yesterday.
Our dreams seemed not far away.
I want to, I want to, I want to stay
I fell into fantasy.

The words were as mystical as purring animals.
The circle of rage...the ghosts on the stage appeared.

The girl on the wall always waited for me
and she was always smiling.
The teenage death boys, the teenage death girls...
and everyone was dancing.
Nothing could touch us then,
no one could change us then, and everyone was dancing.
Nothing could hurt us then, no one could see us then,

Missin' AFI's Youth | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/9/11

Boy, old AFI was really good. Too bad they got washed up and lost their energy. Sing the Sorrow was the slowing of their energy. Decemberunderground was.. OK. Instrumentally, they lost it and Davey's vocals are all used up.Too bad, I missed out on when they were good. They used to be so much fun. Oh yeah, don't consider yourself a 'TRUE' fan of anything. Or else your a fag. Ya' know, the one where your just being a faggot (Louie C.K. definition), not the one where you like dudes.

SHUTUP | Reviewer: Liv | 5/12/11

AFI is the best thing that ever happend to me so no matter what album or song i love them all the way. So anyone who dislikes anything about them is not a true AFI fan. Go Davey, Jade, Hunter, and Adam!!!!

Appreciate | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/4/11

I've been listening to AFI since I was 15yrs old..I am now 31 and I can honestly say I appreciate their music as much then as I do now. The best part is that my 8 year old son loves AFI as much as I do..old stuff or new...They are a great band and have evolved just like any other band...If you cannot appreciate their growth then you were never a true fan...

Never lose the faith | Reviewer: Nik | 1/8/11

I am a relatively new listener, maybe a year, or two now. Saw them in Brixton Academy, London, last year 6th April, 2010. A date I won't EVER forget. I'd like to say a nice big fuck you to everyone who spreads their hollow opinions about AFI, be it the old stuff or new. Appreciate four people's decisions to variate, evolve, mature, whatever you want to call it. I think anyone who says their new stuff is rubbish is as immature as you can get, yet, I also think anyone who does not value their old stuff is a piss poor excuse for a so-called fan. Keep your bullshit to yourselves, or go somewhere else to spread it and allow those who love and adore the music and band to do so without getting pissed at you for it.

Many thanks,
Nik

I got started on the Decemberunderground album I admit.. But I've started listening to the older stuff and it is so much better. Hardcore punk, emotive just amazing. This song is great though some of the older songs are still better. I love this song, and people, listen to the old stuff.

great discovery | Reviewer: cbuss | 3/14/10

this is the song that i discovered AFI, since then i've been trying to collect all the albums.
i've got the art of drowning, sing the sorrow, decemberunderground, i heard a voice (live album) and crash love. i think sing the sorrow and decemberunderground are on-par as the best, but i still need to get their earlier albums :)

something to point out... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/6/10

This song is pretty good. I would just like to point out, though, that it is kind of biased to say that people who've only gotten into AFI recently know nothing about their music. I'm young enough that the only AFI songs I've really been able to hear released (since the only radio stations I've had access to for the longest time were mainstream pop stations)were the newer ones. Yet, those songs got me into AFI, and, now, I've listened to some of the older songs, and do like those, as well.

dude... | Reviewer: jollie | 10/18/09

fuck afi fans they all have no idea what they are talking about anymore all the kids that just found them from MTV and mainstream radio know nothing of the real AFI. and when were they Asking For It? they were Anthems For Insubordinates on Very Proud of Ya, and Answer That and Stay Fashionable if i recall correctly.

Phoenix Theater | Reviewer: Lindsey Marie | 9/29/09

This song is about the Phoenix Theater in Petaluma, CA. I go there quite often actually. Davey talks about the ghost that haunts the balcony and the alleged underground tunnels beneath the venue. All true ghost stories around here and have been around for decades. Davey attends the phoenix regularly and a few years ago I saw him there just listening to music like everyone else. Truly inspiring that he still himself and fame hasn't gone to his head.

Really??? | Reviewer: PJ | 9/10/09

C'mon guys! (and gals)

this is not old school AFI. This is post Black Sails, post All Hallow's EP, post Very proud of ya, and post whatever their first album was called. I reminisce on the days when AFI stood for Asking For It and not A Fire Inside. ugh.

EAST BAY HARDCORE!!!
