Houston's forefathers included Sam Houston, who fought for
Texas's independence from Mexico, and the Civil War general
Robert E. Lee. His parents were friends of 20s singer Gene

Houston made his debut on Louisiana Hayride when aged only

Review about David Houston Golden Hymns - David Houston | Reviewer: Karl Schneller
------ About the album Golden Hymns performed by David Houston
When I was a teenager, David Houston was just making his debut in country music. His unmistakably tenor voice is one of those that has never been duplicated by other artists nor never will. Billy Sherrill, the multi-talented producer of Epic Records took David's pure voice and melded it with simple arrangements to produce one of the most beautiful albums of the old hymns. David hand-picked each song on this album and sings each with conviction.
I am 54 years old now and just this past weekend found a copy of this album in a used record shop in Nashville. I had not heard this album since I left home in 1972, and you would have thought I found a precious jewel when I pulled the mint-condition album from a bottom shelf. What wonderful memories come back now that I have the album converted and enhanced in CD form. David Houston's pure tones will capture your attention as you close your eyes and savor each track on this album. If you are fortunate enough to find a copy of this album, grab it up quickly before it slips through your fingers. You won't be sorry.
