This song means a lot to me. My parents have been divorced since I was 4 and I am with my mom most of the time. She has always been there for me and is extremely supportive. But when I'm with my dad, all he does is insult me. I end up in tears most of the time. He even makes fun of me for being a Christian. But this song reminds me that I'm not alone, and that I need to be kind to everyone I know and meet, because I don't know their back story. So... I guess... thank you. :) <3

This is an amazing song that i hold near and dear to my heart. my dad wasn't exactly the greatest he had some drinking problems cheated on my mom and got thrown out a couple of times. he is currently in prison and i can't see him until i am 18. he picked this song out for me after the 1st time that he cheated and came home. this song has absolutly nothing to do with sex. all john mayer is saying is that women need to be taken care of. any girl will fall i love with a man who treated her as well as her father did and men do the same thing they fall in love with women who treat them like their mothers did. and john mayers wasn't trying to say girls are better then guys or visa versa but that girls need to be taken care of in a completly different manner.

my dad used to play this song to me like 24/7 he pretty much forced me to learn the lyrics, im 14 now & this song is practically apart of me. My dad died this May of 2011 & it really hurt & scared me, this song was a song that i sung for him before he past, now whenever i think of him i sing this song. my dad was a great man & i love him endlessly . John Mayer thank you soooooooooooooooo much for creating this song. it means the world to me & my dad its a song that brought us closer & i thank you cause without this song i would be nothing right now .

great song. I don't know much about Mayer but who'da thunk someone would be brave enough to write a song that says boys and girls (men and women) are different?! Now where is the connection between "lovers who turn into my lips"(whatever that means) and "mothers be good to your daughters too"??? I never had my Dad walk out on me, but he was never exactly there for me. He was and still is more loving to my brothers. When I was little, I thought it was because I was a girl. He walked out on previous daughters and I believe he just doesn't love girl children as much as he does his boys. He's actually been very mean to me my whole life and has done some things I don't like to talk about. But at least he's always given me shelter and stayed with us throughout the years. My mother, however, was and is always good to me. I call her my mother AND my father because that's what she is for me. She taught me everything and is so strong and I thank her for being good to me. :)

Taylor, I'm pretty sure if you go and buy the actual cd this song is on, that it will have the lyrics printed inside somewhere, and you'll see that "who turn into my lips" doesnt even make sense and isnt even part of the song.
