One of country's most enduring songwriters, Dallas Frazier
was born on October 27, 1939, in Spiro, OK. Raised in
Bakersfield, CA, he was skilled on a number of musical
instruments by the age of 12; while still in his teens, he
became a featured member of Ferlin Husky's band, cutting
his first solo single, "Space Command," in 1954. Soon
after, he was named a regular on the Hometown Jamboree
program, where he was often paired with fellow teen star
Molly Bee.
In 1957, Frazier scored a hit with a cover of the Hollywood
Argyles' "Alley Oop." When Hometown Jamboree was canceled
at the end of the decade, he moved to Nashville to work as
a songwriter, composing Husky's 1964 hit "Timber I'm
Falling." Two years later, his career caught fire; in
addition to releasing his More...
Review about Dallas Frazier Hunter's Lodge, Centreville, Va Mid 70's | Reviewer: Cal Newman
------ About artist/band Dallas Frazier
Dallas had just written a song I believe he called "Butterfly Mind" in the mid 70's. Dallas, Roy Justice, & I were at Hunter's Lodge early A.M. I still have an old cassette tape of Dallas playing piano & singing while Roy & I played twin fiddles on this song. I thought it was a great song and wonder if anyone else ever heard the song or ever heard it recorded.
Dallas Frazier is the greatest songwriter on this Planet! From "Ally Oop" to "Honk & Tonk" to "If My Heart Had Windows" to "Clawhammer Clyde" to "Hickory Holler's Tramp"(the sweetest Mother's Day song in history) to "There Goes My Everything" to "Tell It Like It Is", the man knows no boundaries! His songs are like little three-minute movies... so visually-arresting, it's kinda like you're actually in the little movie!! Charlie Louvin didn't have the biggest hits with Dallas' songs but he boldly recorded a couple killer stories so well-written, it's hard to imagine a song could be written like them: "Will You Visit Me On Sundays" & "What Are Those Things With Big Black Wings". Incredible imagery!!
Genius! Dallas Frazier is truly a genius!
Billy Strange & Jeanne Black were talking about Dallas the other day at lunch, what a terrific man he is!! I believe it!!

------ About the song She Wants To Be Good performed by Dallas Frazier
Dallas Frazier is the greatest songwriter on this Planet! Hands down! From "Ally Oop" to "There Goes My Everything" to "What Are Those Things With Big Black Wings" to "Clawhammer Clyde" to "Hickory Holler's Tramp", the man knows no boundaries.
We are having a Tribute Dinner in honor of a wonderful philanthropist in our community. We are located about 90 miles west of Chicago in an Illinois River town called Ottawa, Illinois. Our guest of honor is jokingly known around here as the author of Alley Oop, even though everyone really nows it was Dallas Frazier. We'd love to have the REAL Dallas walk in the night of the Tribute Banquet - so Dallas, if you are going to be anywhere near Chicago on October 10th, we'd give just about anything to have you there to give your blessing and surprise our honored guest! Or, if there is somewher we can get a lifesize poster of you, perhaps we can settle for the next best thing!! Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Please email me if you can make it! THANKS
My husband and I were privileged to be in the above mentioned service. We were blessed by your message. After getting home and getting info about your career on line, was surprised that you were born in Spiro, OK. We are from Poteau, but presently live in KY.
We were privileged to be in the service at Cowboy Church on June 29. We were blessed by your sermon.
After looking you up on line, was surprised you were born in Spiro, OK; we are from Poteau, now living in KY. God Bless you and your wife.

------ About artist/band Dallas Frazier
The first Wednesday of June 2008 Dallas was a guest at Marty's Party at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville TN. I was blessed to be there, he had the crowd on their feet several times. They begged for more. He was so wonderful all the while so very humble. I have great photos, but most importantly I hold dear memories in my heart of a great friend uplifting others in a positive way through his music. A true minister in every way. God bless you and Sharron. P.S. Happy Anniversary love birds.

------ About the song Lord Is That Me performed by Dallas Frazier
The first time I heard Jack Greene sing this song I was blown away.It was a hit for him and shouldve been a monster of a hit.You can tell Dallas is a Christian as thing song really cuts to the chase.Gives me the chills everytime I hear it played. The arrangement is awesome and Jack does it justice!!
I first heard Dallas Frazier in person back in 1966 when our high school senior class attended a "WVOK" Shower of Stars" concert in Birmingham, Ala. The song "Elvira" had just recently been released and was a smash! Two or three years ago, while on vacation, I had heard that Dallas was the pastor of a church near White House, Tennessee. Since I , too, am a pastor, I really wanted to meet him, but I never could find him. I wonder if he is still serving a church in that area. Godspeed, Dallas! Still hope to meet you some time. I admire you greatly.
Alley Oop Cover? | Reviewer: Drive By Shooter
------ About artist/band Dallas Frazier
It is misleading (and a tad disrespectful) that the bio (above) indicates "In 1957, Frazier scored a hit with a cover of the Hollywood Argyles' "Alley Oop.".
Dallas actually wrote "Alley Oop". Even if he did release his recorded version after the Hollywood Argyles released theirs, it can not be considered a "cover" of their hit. It is his song.
That said, I would like to agree with other posters on this page, Dallas Frazier was one of the great songwriters in all of country music.
I watched Cousin Herb where I saw Dallas Frazier and also met him in Avenal CA so long ago, when I was 10 years old! Sp glad to read he is serving the Lord!
i Started Listening To Dallas Frazier Songs Way Back In The 60s, His Songs Were Pure Country Music, Nashville Doesn't Have Country Songwriters like Him These days, But i think Billy Yates is the new Dallas Frazier, Regards Gerry King
